The fastest way to speed up Spring's arrival is to chase it on a vacation somewhere in the sunny scenery. But how to choose a destination when overloaded in a short state on time? We've gone to zero in five places that should appeal to different budgets and preferences. It's the mood to park on a Caucasian beach, hike through meadows, or park a canyon with art, baguettes and sokka. All hotels listed below still have availability (at press time) for March, April and May. The prices listed are from March.
Food: Nice, France
Philip Haslett, founder of the travel agency's French Promise, founding a good meal in Nice was never a problem. After all, this perennial, sunny city, the largest in the French Riviera, has a gorgeous outdoor market (open all year round), excellent seafood and countless inventive bistros (such as Peixes and Olive & Artichaut). The art scene is incredible. However, until recently, high-end hotels were rare. Now, two old winter palace hotels have been revived with flashy new residents. The 151-room Anantara Plaza Nice Hotel, a Thai-based luxury brand (starting from $360 per night), and on the streets, RuVictoria from Maison Albah, 132-room and marble spa (starting from about $370 per night). Another notable newcomer, Hôtel Du Couvent lives in a 17th century monastery. Opened last summer, it's modestly charming and surprisingly childish, with 88 rooms, three restaurants, gardens, thermal baths, herbalists, bakeries and monthly farmers markets (approximately $400 per night). Beach: Turkish and Caicos
When it comes to Caribbean fantasy with powder sand and semi-transparent seas, there are few places to deliver, like Turkey or Caicos, even if you're not in the Caribbean. British territory is a group of nine residential islands and dozens of islands and cays, located southeast of the Bahamas in the Atlantic Ocean, easily reaching the mainland of the United States. As such, older guard hotels lined with Grace Bay on Main Island tend to book quickly in winter and spring. Jill Taylor, travel advisor at Jetset World Travel, says the area is particularly suited to enthusiastic swimmers and families with young children. For a more modest price, she leads her family to West Bay Club, an oceanfront condominium hotel (starting at around $660 per night). The new rock house down the beach is something to inspire Greek island retreats and is definitely suitable for couples and broods with older children (from around $1,040 per night). The island's most luxurious option, Amanyara claims a top-notch location on the island's northwest coast (from around $3,585 per night) just outside the National Marine Park. Mountain: Peruvian Andes
March and early April are autumn at the end of Peru's rainy season. But the visit means avoiding crowds and sudden prices, says Joe Sandilo, co-founder of Exeter Latin America, Speciality Tour operator. “And that's not like it's raining every day, every day,” he says. City: Lisbon, Portugal
“Lisbon was once a kind of music in Fado,” says Virginia Ilrita, founder of a travel agency created for Spain and Portugal. But now it's full of energy. “This is especially true in the summer, but spring is becoming more and more popular. The days are calm, and many of the orange trees in the city are fragrant, making it easy to reserve restaurants in cool neighborhood spots like Danoi. There are also more elbow rooms in the museum, including the Mac/CCB, and the palace on the Sintra hill 20 miles north. Among the mildest of the hotel's new crops is the 24-room Pachio do Tillo.
