Tuscan hotel in a former 16th century university
When Renaissance architect Filippo Bruneleschi completed the soaring cupola of the Duomo in Florence, Italy in 1436, it was an engineering feat that formed the city's skyline. (It is the largest brick dome still in existence.) From the surrounding hills, its reddish peaks appear to float above the ocean on a terracotta roof. Guests of Calegio Alra Querce, Italy's first Obergi Resort Collection hotel, have that perspective from a former 16th century university, sitting in a Tuscan countryside belt. Designed in collaboration with Florence-based Studio Arch Florence, the interior pays homage to both the building's academic past and its idyllic country environment. The hotel's restaurant, La Gamera, was a refined tratoria, once named after the tin lunchbox carried by school children in Florence, but in the 16th century it was an outdoor citrus garden. It occupies the dining hall. Aperitivi and NightCaps have Bar Bertelli dedicated to former science teachers who still have instruments on-site. In some rooms and suites that were not yet decorated with original frescos, the walls featured a cleaned landscape, hazy greenery, and Ecras nodded to the idyllic murals of Pompe Anvilla. Kemper Hyers, creative director of Auberge Resort Collections, has commissioned custom furniture for 83 rooms and suites at Paolo Castelli in Milan, as well as custom furniture in earth-toed ceramics by Studio Ceramico Giusti. I walk down the hill. Collegio Alla Querce will open on March 2nd. Approximately $1,600 per night, Aubergeresorts.com.

Celebrating the artistry of Lee Bowery in London's Tate Modern
Performance artist Leigh Bowery packed much into his short life before he passed away in 1994 at the age of 33 of AIDS-related complications. A model of the painter Lucien Freud. He resisted a simple classification and stated, “If you label me, you will deny me.” Born in the sleepy suburbs of Melbourne, Australia, Bowley moved to London in 1980, particularly at Taboo, a well-known nightclub he founded, and reinvented himself on the underground queer club circuit. Using an array of wrapped masks, bondage gear, wigs and sky-high platforms that further elevated the 6-foot-3 frame, he pushed the limits of conversion and norms of the time through clothing and makeup. Thirty years after his death, his influence can be seen everywhere, from the disorderly aesthetics of designers like Rick Owens and Charles Jeffrey to the destructive outfits worn by Lady Gaga. A new retrospective will begin this month at Tate Modern in London. In a series of themed rooms, including home, clubs, stages, and galleries, the show has been able to explore paintings, photography, films and interviews with many collaborators, including artists Cerith Wyn Evans and The Drag, and has been able to help Bowery's Art, Life, and more. Explore legacy. Queen Lady Bunny, DJ Princess Julia, and George, a young musician. “Lee Bowery!” will be on display at Tate Modern in London from February 27th to August 31st at Tate.org.uk.
The Clärchens Ballhaus in Berlin was built in 1913, with over 900 ballrooms. Now it is one of the few leftists and has been a beloved institution for decades, hosting weekly tango lessons in the landmark mirror. But it was underused and devastated, says Berlin-born entrepreneur Joram Ross: In 2018, Roth, who owns the joint space between the contemporary photography museum group Fotografiska and Neuehouse in New York and LA, purchased the Clärchens and began planning for renovations. “The Berlinians don't want to change anything,” he says. “We knew we had to redo our infrastructure completely, but make sure it still looks like it was 112 years ago,” he maintains tango lessons (along with other types of dance instruction). He hired Urihanish, a set designer for the neo-noir TV series Babylon Berlin. Later, Ross brought in German chef Tobias Beck to open Luna Doro, a party-friendly restaurant named after one of the dance teachers at Balhaus. “Tobias understands German cuisine, but he has a sense of humor about it,” says Ross. Ross recommends Tartare Igel, a classic beef tartare in the shape of a hedgehog with a spine made from thin slivers of onion. Claerchensball.haus.

Skin care based on rice benefits
One of the first beauty tips my mother shared with me is that I need to wash my face with milky water, a milky liquid left behind after rinsing the grain before cooking. She vows by its bright and soft effects, and so do I do so many years later. Rice has long been respected for skincare. This is a tradition that is reflected in the essential skin range of luxury hotel group Aman. The Six-Product collection incorporates ancient purple rice blanc extracts, celebrated for its antioxidant properties and collagen-enhancing ability, Indigo Extract, a plant once preferred by samurai for healing benefits. It's lined up. My go-to is the lighting eye cream, which infuses rice fermentation and peptides to brighten and activate the under-eye area. Founded in 2019 by Giselle Go and Philippe Terrien, Damdam Tokyo presents rice along with other Japanese ingredients such as Shiso and Konnyaku, a Japanese root crop used to detoxify. The company's silk rice cleansing oil, which removes makeup and dirt, features rice brans with anti-inflammatory properties and Japanese rice brans. Newly available in refillable jars, Tokyo-based beauty brand Toucha Skin Skin Cream combines Japanese purple rice with plant extracts that attract moisture to plump and hydration. Dowa's signature ingredient, Korean beauty brand home is rice harvested domestically from Icheon city. The Seoul-based company creates rice bran sheet masks that also contain skin soothing Houttuynia cordata (flowering plant) and Korean magwart extract. Other K-Beauty products discovered at Soko Glam, an online retailer specializing in skincare in Korea, come from Rice Toner, which helps eliminate Dead Skin. It will be used as the final step in your routine.

New restaurants you know in Berkshire
Berkshire has a new restaurant in Massachusetts Hill Country filled with art, a quick weekend trip from both New York City and Boston. In areas where farm-to-table fares are expected, the Cantina, which opened in New Marlborough in October, does better. Owner Peter Chapin also owns nearby Mill River Farm, and the team is growing or growing much of what is used in globally inspired dishes. In Great Barrington, the uncompliant mood is casual and playful (named after the skateboarding tricks), but chef owner Stephen Browning's skills are serious. Its ever-changing menu is suitable for vegetables, with dishes such as Japanese sweet potatoes served with rabne, chili crisps and tahini. The restaurant is alcohol free, but the turmeric tonic, tamarind cooler and strawberry milk fall off nicely. After purchasing the historic Apple Tree Inn in the nearby town of Lennox, Claire Colary partners with Israeli chef Hayashi Avrahami and his wife, Creative Director Aditalbee, to inspire Shakuka and other Mediterranean Sea. We had a brunch restaurant, Baladi, and views of the surrounding hills. At South Eglemont, you may find HY's fried owner Jack Louver Spin vinyl after the table is moved to make room for the dance. With the feel of vintage roadside joints, Hy's has a tight menu that spins around red vinyl booths, creative cocktails and fried chicken intended to be thrown in a homemade honey sambal.
