Multiple reports Thursday said Aliya Arena, the son of former NBA player Gilbert Arenas with five-star basketball prospects, was reportedly involved in a serious vehicle crash.
The arena was “hospitalized and placed in a induced coma,” ESPN reported. According to TMZ Sports, the 18-year-old California native was traveling on a Tesla Cybertruck before 5am in Los Angeles.
The Arena recently committed to the USC Trojan men's basketball team.

In December 2024, the arena was one of the top-ranked shooting guards in the 2026 class. He recently asked him to be reclassified as a senior so that he could graduate from high school in 2025.

Gilbert spent 12 seasons in the NBA and played in four different franchises. He hosts a basketball-centric “Gils Arena” podcast.
Gilbert took part in a special father-son moment at McDonald's nationwide match in New York earlier this month. In an interview, the young arena talked about some of the similarities he shares with his father.

“We have a little bit of a similar personality,” Alija said. “I feel that's also my dad's dream. I can reach that level.”
In a recent edition of “Podcast P” by Philadelphia 76ers guard Paul George, Elder Arenas shared some details about her son's coaching experience.

“There's no holidays… I get 400 shots (300 or) before school,” Arenas said. “He's coachable…it depends on the number of days. In the morning we get up like 5:30, so he's an hour and a half (he goes to school, gets home, then he starts moving and lifts up quickly.

Gilbert has five children, four of whom share with Laura Govan, the mother of his ex-wife, Aliya.
