In his amazing return to the sport, American figure skater Alisalue abdicated Japan's three-time defending champion Sakamoto in the World Figure Skating Championships at TD Garden in Boston on Friday night.
Liu became the first American woman to win a title since Kimmie Meissner in 2006.
Liu's victory marked a Meteor comeback after leaving the sport in 2022.

“I mean, that's for me and everything I've gone through,” Liu said after the victory. “My last skating experience, my time, and this time, I think I'm very happy. I'm happy to be able to deliver two of my best performances.”
Liu was once considered the youngest champion in the United States when he won in 2019 at the age of 13 and defended the title the following year. She realized her childhood dreams in Olympic qualifying, finishing sixth in the 2022 Beijing Games and won a bronze medal at the World Championships that year.
