This tumultuous Oscar season has a certified front runner.
After more than a month had passed since “Anola” lost all the awards nominated for Golden Globes on Saturday night in Los Angeles, the comedy directed by Shawn Baker is an awards show held by the Director's Guild of America and the Producer Guild. He won the highest honors in. of America. The victory that followed speaks in particular. Since 2009, when both the PGA and the Academy expanded the number of five Best Film candidates, the PGA winners won all but three Best Picture Oscars.
The ceremony was held opposite each other in Beverly Hills, and Baker had to race from the DGA. He appeared in Gobsmack while accepting his award at a previous ceremony.
“My con man syndrome is on the rise right now,” Baker said. “As with my cortisol levels.”
The victory concluded a good weekend for “Anola,” which won the top prize at Critics' Choice Awards on Friday night. And while Baker may be battling the con man syndrome, 18 of the last 20 DGA winners took the best director Oscar, making him a good companion.
Other winners on both shows include “The General” and “Hacking,” which won the Drama Series and Comedy Series Awards, respectively. “Nickel Boys” director Ramerlos won the DGA Award for first-time theatrical filmmaker.
“Emilia Perez” led Oscar Field with 13 nominations, but was hit by a controversy involving an old tweet from star Cara Sofia Gascon and failed to receive the award at either ceremony. .
