In July of this year, as anti-Israel crowds took to the streets of Washington, D.C., to protest Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's speech to Congress, Zayed Mohamed Mahdawi, 26, walked into the memorial at Columbus Circle in front of Union Station. He climbed to the top of the monument and reportedly spray-painted an ominous message: “Hamas is coming.” He punctuated the warning with a red inverted triangle, a symbol used by terrorist organizations to mark targets.
Nearby, demonstrators toppled a U.S. flag to ashes, attacked U.S. park police officers who tried to arrest the instigators, and spray-painted a monument with threatening graffiti, including “DEATH 2 AMRIKKA.” I drew it.
At 3:26 p.m., the U.S. Park Police withdrew a protest permit that had been issued to the ANSWER Coalition, a self-proclaimed socialist group based in Washington. The FBI subsequently charged Mahdawi and other protesters with destruction of government property.
“The permit holder did not answer the phone and the call went straight to voicemail,” an FBI agent wrote in a fascinating affidavit, adding that someone at the gym Mr. Mahdawi used did not provide the FBI with his identity. It was revealed that he had sent information about
Nearly six months later, the ANSWER coalition is poised to receive a new permit to host another protest on Monday, according to a copy of the application I obtained from the National Park Service. Event name: “For peace and justice – Liberate Palestine”. The obvious target is the inauguration of President-elect Donald Trump.
In July, Zaid Mohamed Mahdawi, 26, allegedly climbed to the top of a monument at Columbus Circle in front of Union Station and spray-painted an ominous message: “Hamas is coming.”
Past actions have shown that protests bring chaos to the streets of the capital. But National Park Service spokesman Michael Litterst told me that current case law makes it difficult to deny permits based on past incidents.
Critics, including leaders of the Clarity Coalition, a network of Muslims, ex-Muslims and allies opposed to extremism, say it is long past time to deny the permit. At the very least, the public should open their eyes wide as to who is behind these protests.
As the protests unfold, media coverage will likely frame the protests as an “organic” and “grassroots” movement. But don't get me wrong. These events are part of a larger, well-funded operation. The protesters are aligned with America's adversaries, including Russia, China, Iran, North Korea and Hamas, united in an unholy alliance that blends socialism and Islamism, or political Islam.

These events are organized by a coalition of extremist groups.
This coalition, which I call the Walk Army, functions as a red-green coalition, with red symbolizing socialism and communism and green representing Islam. These are the same groups that fueled so-called campus intifada encampments across the country last year. Their ultimate goal is to dismantle American democracy and replace it with a socialist, anti-capitalist order. The first way to combat this threat is through transparency, vigilance, and a commitment to truth.
This application form lists the same “event manager'' as in July. That person is Brian Becker, the self-proclaimed Marxist founder of the ANSWER Coalition.
Protest organizers say there are at least 50 “support” groups whose motives are far from grassroots. I created a public database as part of my work at the Pearl Project, a non-profit journalism initiative. According to my analysis, 25 of the groups are self-proclaimed socialist organizations, five are Muslim, Arab, or Palestinian, and the final 20 are “socialist-adjacent.”
“Red” in this alliance includes:
ANSWER Coalition: A Marxist-Leninist group notorious for organizing protests that amplify anti-American and anti-Israel rhetoric Code Pink: Neville Roy Singham, an American billionaire living in Shanghai with ties to the Chinese Communist Party The New York Times reports on an anti-Israel organization funded by the New York Times. Socialist Liberation Party: Advocates dismantling capitalism and aligning the United States with socialists People's Forum: A socialist group that acts as an agent of Singham's pro-China policy. It has also been documented in the New York Times. Democratic Socialists of America: The largest socialist organization in the United States and a major anti-Israel supporter. campaign.
“Green” on this axis includes:
Students for Justice in Palestine: Founded by University of California, Berkeley academic Hatem Bazian, this controversial group has incited many anti-Semitic campus protests and is currently banned on many campuses. Palestine Feminist Collective: Working on “Palestinian Liberation and Beyond.” Palestinian Youth Movement: Dedicated to “strategies of mobilization, agitation, and confrontation.'' American Palestinian Community Network: Organized several days of protests in Chicago to disrupt the Democratic convention. American Muslim Community: Created a “Survival Pack” with tips on building campus “liberated zones” and resources from co-founder Council on American-Islamic Relations. Nihad Awad said he was “satisfied” with Hamas' invasion of Israel on October 7.

Officials say it's not easy to deny permits based on past conduct.
In July, I went to the northwest corner of C Street to report on people renting buses to transport participants to the first “Hamas is coming” protests. It was the Party of Socialism and Liberation. Now, when you visit the donations page on the “We Fight Back” website, you can see who is receiving donations for the January 20 protests. It's The People's Forum, whose logo and tax ID number appear on the donation page.

On November 5, four days after President Trump's election victory, an anonymous person purchased the website domain wefightback2025.org. Now a digital hub for protests, the facility is embedded with a Google map showing the geographic locations of 80 planned “actions” across the country.

It includes a “J20 Media Kit” with pre-designed Instagram graphics, Canva templates, and slogans like “Stop the Genocide in Palestine” and “Down with the far-right Trump Billionaire Agenda!” Also included are printable protest posters.
The kit also provides social media captions with megaphone emoji. They have the right to protest, but the world must open its eyes wide to see who is holding the megaphone.
