Former President Joe Biden posted on Saturday on X to celebrate International Women's Day, with many Americans calling for his administration's record to enable transgender athletes to compete in women's sports.
During Biden's presidency, he signed an executive order allowing trans athletes to compete in women's and girls' sports, attempting to rewrite Title IX to allow it, and punish the state for taking his own steps to combat the issue.
Since Biden resigned, Congressional Democrats and the state government have done enough to combat Republican attempts to address the issue.

There was a wave of criticism on Saturday for his congratulatory post.
Critics included Rep. Brandon Gill of R-Texas. He posted a screenshot of a House of Representatives vote on the protection of women and girls in sports laws that 203 Democrats opposed. The bill was filibustered in the Senate when 45 Democrats voted against it.
XX-XY Athletics is a sportswear brand dedicated to promoting activities to protect female athletes from trans-inclusion, and has denounced Biden for “eroding” women's rights.
Other Americans shared their thoughts.
“If a man takes over the space, he won't succeed,” wrote one X user.
Another X user said, “Is that what you humiliated us by putting our women in women's sports? Is it asking my sisters and daughters?
“Hey Joe. What are women? Is it a way to celebrate it by leading men into female sports? Do they take away the real identity of women?” another user wrote.
Biden's record of allowing trans athletes to compete in women and girls' sports has become one of the Democrats' biggest vulnerabilities in the 2024 election.
Democrat voters abandon the party after the AOC, Jeffries says anti-trans athletes will empower sexual predators
On the first day of his presidency in January 2021, Biden signed an executive order to “prevent and fight discrimination based on gender identity or sexual orientation.”
The order included a section titled “Children should be able to learn without worrying about whether they will be denied access to toilets, locker rooms or school sports.”
In March 2023, Democrats advocated the Transgender Bill of Rights and proposed a resolution that “recognizes the federal obligation to develop and implement the Transgender Bill of Rights.” The resolution specifically calls for federal law to enable biological men to participate in team sports and gender identity and optimal programs.
In April 2023, Biden's Department of Education proposed a change in rules that would punish schools to prevent trans athletes from competing in women's sports.
The proposition was entitled “Gender-based non-discrimination in educational programs or federally supported activities: Gender-related eligibility criteria for male and female athletic teams.”

The rules would have banned individual states from banning participation in single sex sports by gender identity rather than simply gender. There are 23 states in the United States that have laws restricting trans athletes from competing as women in public school sports.
In April 2024, Biden issued a sweeping Title IX rewrite that issued a prohibition of “gender” discrimination in schools to prohibit “gender” discrimination based on gender identity, sexual orientation, and “pregnancy or related status.” The rules came into effect on August 1, and for the first time the law stated that discrimination based on gender includes conduct related to a person's gender identity.
It led to more than 20 lawyer generals suing rules, claiming it was inconsistent with some of their state laws that prevent transgender students from participating in women's sports.
The Supreme Court terminated Biden's urgent request in August to enforce a rewrite of a state that refused to be rewritten.
When the election took place in November, Biden's record on the issue may have backfired his party as he lost the White House, Senate and House of Representatives.
A national exit poll conducted by the US Legislative Action Committee for Women of concern found that 70% of moderate voters viewed the issue of “men and men and men playing girls sports with Donald Trump boys and women's toilets using girls and women's toilets.”
Additionally, 6% said it was the most important question of all, and 44% said it was “very important.”
After President Donald Trump took office, he signed a February 5 executive order banning women and girls' sports trans athletes. But many Democrat-led states have refused to comply with the order despite most Democrats opposed it.
A recent New York Times/Ipsos survey found that the majority of Americans, including the majority of Democrats, believe that trans athletes should not be allowed to compete in women's sports. Of the 2,128 participants, 79% said that biological men identified as women should not be allowed to participate in female sports.
Of the 1,025 identified as Democrats or Democrats they rely on, 67% said trans athletes should not be allowed to compete with women.
