The possibility of Bill Belichick becoming the head coach of the North Carolina Tar Heels was an underrated storyline heading into conference championship weekend.
Rumors that Belichick could take over the program returned on Monday, with the College Football Playoff bracket set, bowl games scheduled and the transfer portal open. Belichick's girlfriend, Jordon Hudson, gave Belichick the thumbs up.

She responded Monday to a comment on her Instagram about trying to convince Belichick to Chapel Hill.
“I'm leaving you with a message…” she replied with a grinning emoji and a bright blue heart.
Inside Carolina first reported that Belichick had interviewed for the Tar Heels job. The news comes as North Carolina announced in late November that College Football Hall of Famer Mack Brown would not return to the school for the 2025 season. Brown remained with the team after the loss in the rivalry to North Carolina State.

Freddie Kitchens has been named interim head coach for the Tar Heels' bowl game. The University of North Carolina will face UW in the Fenway Bowl.
Belichick was linked with a potential NFL head coaching job after his mutual split with the New England Patriots last spring. He was linked to the Atlanta Falcons job, but was unable to nab it.
He has not made any comments on this link.

Belichick's father, Steve, was an assistant coach at the University of North Carolina from 1953 to 1955. Belichick's son, also named Steve, is the defensive coordinator at the University of Washington.
