Damar Hamlin suffered a serious injury in primetime on Thursday night.
It was a disastrous night for the Miami Dolphins, as quarterback Tua Tagovailoa suffered a concussion in the third quarter of a 31-10 loss to the Buffalo Bills. The hit that caused Tagovailoa's concussion was due to a tackle by Bills safety Damar Hamlin, who suffered a cardiac arrest on the field in January 2023.

Before the injury, Tua had just 145 passing yards, one touchdown and three interceptions as Miami fell behind 31-10.
With Tagovailoa out, Dolphins backup Skylar Thompson played but was unable to mount a touchdown drive, his first series resulting in a sack on a crucial fourth down deep in Buffalo territory.
Second-year running back Devon Acchane's performance was one of Miami's few bright spots. Acchane was questionable before the game with an ankle injury but looked completely healthy on the field. He finished with 96 yards rushing and 69 yards receiving, scoring the Dolphins' only touchdown.
Dolphins player Tua Tagovailoa has been considering retirement for “some time” after suffering multiple concussions.

In contrast, the Bills left with plenty to celebrate.
Quarterback Josh Allen has proven he can lead an explosive offense even without wide receiver Stefon Diggs, who was traded to the Houston Texans in the offseason. Diggs was Allen's primary outside target during Buffalo's playoff seasons from 2020 to 2023. Fellow wide receiver Gabe Davis also left the team this offseason.
But now, Allen has found reliable targets in Khalil Shakir and Ty Davis through the first two games of the season.
Buffalo running back James Cook was a big force on the ground against Miami, averaging 7.1 yards per carry for 78 yards and two touchdowns.
The Bills have won 12 of their last 13 meetings with the Dolphins, some of the most one-sided in the history of the rivalry and making it especially tough for coach Mike McDaniel's Miami playoff team.

The Dolphins lost to the Bills in the first round of the 2022 playoffs after missing out on the division lead, and had a chance to win the division against the Bills in Week 18 last season, but Miami lost 21-14 and fell to the wild-card spot.
And despite all this motivation from recent history, the Dolphins were nearly scoreless again Thursday night, losing their quarterback in the process.
