Chedur Sanders was the 144th pick in the NFL Draft as the Cleveland Browns added him to the depth chart in the fifth round on Saturday afternoon.
The freefall lasted longer than expected, but Sanders finally found his home on the third day and began his journey to become the team's starting quarterback at some point in the 2025 season.

He will be in the quarterback room with Kenny Pickett, Joe Flaco and fellow rookie Dillon Gabriel. Desshaun Watson's position in 2025 is dark at best after re-attacking Achilles in the offseason. Watson shed Achilles' tears last October.
Browns general manager Andrew Berry revealed his expectations for each quarterback the team brought during the offseason.
“We expect all players to compete, and that's easy,” he said.
Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski was asked how he guarantees each of the four healthy quarterbacks will get a fair shot.
“We talked about it, and I think it's both,” he said. “Obviously, we can't split the 25, 25, 25, but I'm sure it's fair for each player and there's a fair plan for the team too.”
The Browns acquired Pickett in the offseason in a trade with the Philadelphia Eagles. He served as Jalen Harks' backup for the Eagles and received the ring when the team won the Super Bowl with the Kansas City Chiefs in February. He previously started with the Pittsburgh Steelers after the team selected him in the first round of the 2022 draft.
Cleveland brought Flacco back after going to the Indianapolis Colts in 2024. He took over for injured Watson in 2023 and led the Browns into the playoffs. Flacco won the Super Bowl in 2012 with the Baltimore Ravens.

Shedeur Sanders' prank call controversy brings great development
The Browns chose Gabriel in the third round on Friday. He played college ball for UCF, Oklahoma and Oregon. Last year, with the duck, he had 3,857 yards and 30 touchdown passes. He was a finalist in the Heisman Trophy. He also holds FBS records for most touchdown passes thrown into his career.
Berry explained why the team decided to take two quarterbacks in this year's draft.
“Imagine how the draft will unfold so you can probably say that there wasn't a plan to take two running backs, and then you'll just adjust to what's really on the board,” Berry said. And like I said, “Hey, here's our needs and we're going to pick the players in the positions we need,” so that we don't actually get into the draft.

“Usually, doing that is a way to make a mistake. So there's a bit of a flow to the weekend. There's a different twist and turn as the board goes, so we try to do it all to maximize the impact of the picks that we collectively have.
Sanders will face a tough battle in his first job and attempts to achieve his roster spot once the season officially begins later this year. But that's not impossible.
“I know I'm a perfect fit,” he told reporters. “I pay tribute to the vet and it makes me feel like I'm in the beginning and show that I'm ready to work here, show my coach and let me understand, I'm ready to work here.

“That's something I really appreciate. It's an opportunity for people to actually see me and see if it's true or not. That's what I'm most excited about being in the building.
