The Cleveland Browns began rookie minicamp on Friday, with rookie quarterbacks Dillon Gabriel and Chedure Sanders making their first appearance on the field.
Gabriel was chosen in the third round, and Sanders was chosen in the fifth round after an unprecedented slide. Gabriel received his first snap of the day, but head coach Kevin Stefanski warned him of reading it too much.
“Yeah, I'm not going to look into anything,” Stefanski said via transcription from the Browns.

“If you look at the whole weekend, you can go through the spring, meaning you don't pay too much attention to who's in that first snap.”
Stefanski said he thought “both did a good job,” but he wasn't committed to who gets the first snap at practice on Saturday.
The Browns head coach emphasized that he “sees too much” when he received his first snap.

“There's a lot of time between now and September, so there's a plan. But it's a comprehensive assessment. It's not just based on the practicers. There's a lot to it,” Stefanski said.
The Browns have five quarterbacks on their roster, and the starter for week one is not clear. Deshaun Watson had surgery with the same tendon in October 2024, then again ruptured his Achilles tendon in January.

The Browns acquired Kenny Pickett in trade with the Philadelphia Eagles and signed a one-year contract with Joe Fraco before the NFL Draft. It's still not clear who will get a first week nod with the addition of Gabriel and Sanders to the already packed quarterback room.
