American singer Elizabeth Irving performed the US national anthem as the boo-in chorus rained. Irving also sings the national anthem before the Vancouver Canucks and the Vancouver White Caps game.

“It's awful to boo our national anthem and start this whole thing with this,” McAfee cried out on the broadcast table.
The Toronto national anthem boo comes a week after hockey fans from both countries boo each other's national anthem.
During the NHL's 4 Nations Face Off Exhibition Tournament on February 12-20, Canadian fans booed the US national anthem, while US fans booed the Canadian national anthem ahead of multiple games.
It began on February 13th, when Canadian fans in Montreal booed the US national anthem and hinted that they should become the 51st state in the United States after President Donald Trump's recent threat to impose tariffs on Canada.
Booing urged a gust of bouts between Canadians and US players at the first meeting of the tournament between the two teams on February 15th. The US won that game 3-1.
Team USA Player's American Pride NHL Star Dish: “I've never seen it from the Americans in general.”
The Canadian Anthem was booed at the TD Garden in Boston before the four countries' matches between Canada and Finland.
The US and Canada then finally met on February 20th, with American fans in Boston booing the Canadian national anthem again, though in a light tone. Canada won the game 3-2 overtime.
Since then, hostile rhetoric between the two countries, including sports, has only escalated.
Canadian men's soccer coach Jesse Marche blows up Trump with his “51st state” remarks, calling it “inhumous” on Wednesday.
On Wednesday, Conca Caffenations League Media Day, Marche did not hold back his opinion on Trump's comments, saying he was “shamed” Canada had been humiliated by the president.
“If you have one message for the president, it's about lifting the ridiculous rhetoric about Canada being the 51st state,” Marsh said. “As an American, I am embarrassed by rog arrogance and neglect, and have shown one of the oldest, strongest and most loyal allies in history. But one thing is certainly true, when I look forward to a month from now, this will fuel our team.
NHL legend Wayne Gretzky has also been criticized by fellow Canadians for his apparent support for Trump.

Trump recently said he asked Gretzky to become the next “Governor of Canada” after Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced he would resign.
However, after Gretzky expressed his support for “Canada, which leaves an independent country rather than becoming the precious and beautiful 51st state,” Trump declared Gretzky a “free agent.”
It led fellow Canadian hockey legend Bobby Oh wrote that he was disappointed in reading criticisms about Gretzky, whom he considers to be one of the “great Canadians to date” in the Toronto sun.
“How whimsical people become when people who have given so much time and effort into Canadian hockey are treated in such a way,” Orr wrote. “Listen, we all have our personal beliefs because we all have something to do with religion, politics, etc. Wayne respects your right to such beliefs. Why can't you respect him?”
Wayne's wife, Janet Gretzky, read Orr's column and responded on social media.
“Thanks to Bobby All. Your words mean the world to Wayne and his family. I have never met anyone who is more proud of being Canadian, and reading and seeing the average comments has broken my heart. He will do anything to make Canadians proud.
Trump agreed to suspend tariffs for 30 days on February 3rd. In other words, it is expected to be imposed in early March. The tariffs Trump has imposed on Canada are in response to drug trafficking at US borders.
