His Boston Celtics are fighting to keep the season alive on Wednesday night, but Jason Tatum has successfully performed a surgery to repair his Achilles tendon, which burst in Game 4 loss to the New York Knicks.
Tatum's path to recovery now begins, and he spoke for the first time since he was injured in the fourth quarter of Game 4.
Tatum posted a photo of herself in a hospital bed after the surgery she gave a thumbs up.

“Thank you to all your love and supporters (prayer emojis),” Tatum wrote in the caption on Instagram.
The Celtics posted a screenshot of Tatum, saying, “The comeback will be bigger than the set-off.”

Tatum scored his best playoff performance of 2025, scoring 42 points with 16 shots with 28 shots and 3 pointers against the Knicks in Game 4.
Boston was down at the time of his injury, so Tatum tried to plant it on his right foot and chase the loose ball, but he quickly leaned down to the floor in pain.

Tatum was assisted from the court by Celtics staff, and the crowd at Madison Square Garden was praised for the show of honor as they headed to the locker room. The MRI results the next day confirmed what the team was afraid of. Tatum had Achilles torn, requiring surgery.
It will be a long journey for Tatum. Tatum could potentially make his fourth straight All-NBA first team. He starred last season in a victory for the Dallas Mavericks in the Celtics' NBA Finals.
The Celtics wanted a succession, but many believed they would pass the Knicks in the Eastern Conference semi-finals, but Boston blew two 20-point deficits in games 1 and 2 and fell to a 2-0 hole.

The Celtics won Game 3 on the road, and losses in Game 4 had more impact than faced with Elimination Game 5 at TD Garden.
