Patrick Mahomes briefly scared every Kansas City Chiefs fan on “Monday Night Football,” but it all ended well as the team defeated the Tampa Bay Buccaneers 30-24 to remain undefeated.
However, this game required overtime to determine whether Kansas City would stay in the win column in Week 9.
The Chiefs are 8-0 on the year, and the Bucks have lost three straight, dropping to 4-5.

The Buccaneers weren't going to win this game without a fight, scoring a touchdown with 2:16 left in the fourth quarter, and a perfect drive from Baker Mayfield gave them more time.
Ryan Miller scored a 1-yard touchdown for Mayfield, but Todd Bowles opted for the extra point instead of going ahead with two points, tying the game at 24 apiece.
Bowles didn't know it at the time, but since Mahomes won the coin toss in overtime and didn't let the Bucs get the ball back, Tampa Bay probably would have won if he had scored two points.
Mahomes dissected the Buccaneers' defense on the first and only drive of overtime, ultimately forcing Kareem Hunt to score the overtime touchdown on a 1-yard run.

The scare came in the second half when, after Harrison Butker's extra point, Mahomes made a shovel pass to Samaje Perine to tie the score at 17, but replays show that Mahomes, who was scrambling outside the pocket, awkwardly stepped on his left foot. I saw you there.

Due to rainy weather, both the Chiefs and Bucks got off to a slow start in this game, with Kansas City holding a 3-0 lead at the end of the first quarter.

Mayfield and the Buccaneers were able to find the end zone first, and Kansas City native Rathard White, making his first appearance at Arrowhead Stadium, scored his first touchdown of the game.
On the Buccaneers' second drive of the game, White got a nice block from left tackle Tristan Wirfs and ran nearly contactless from 7 yards to the end zone, after Chase McLaughlin buried the extra point. The score was 7-3. Point attempt.
But, as the Chiefs always do, they responded, and the ensuing drive resulted in a Hopkins score.
Those were the only touchdowns of the first half, but if Travis Kelce hadn't fumbled a second-and-10 near midfield with 1:03 left in the second quarter, the Chiefs would have accomplished something within two minutes. could have been done.
But Kelce led the Chiefs in the passing game with 14 catches for 100 yards, including two that set up Hunt's game-winning run.

Mahomes completed 34-of-44 for 291 yards, and Mayfield completed 23-of-31 for 200 yards, including two touchdown passes. Cade Otten found the end zone again and was the Bucs' top receiver with eight catches for 77 yards.
In the end, the ground-and-pound game paid off for the Chiefs, with Hunt gaining 106 yards on 27 carries to cap another hard-fought victory for Kansas City.
