Local law enforcement said Monday that a former college football player faces murder charges, allegedly shooting a man during a physical altercation at a bar in Florida.
Former University of Maryland defensive back Avantae Trevillon Williams was arrested by Deland police on Monday. He is charged with second-degree murder, including a firearm.

The 24-year-old suspect said he was taken into custody “satisfied” days after 32-year-old Keshod Harris was shot dead at a bar in Deland, Florida.

Police say officers from the Deland Police Department and Volsia Sheriff's Office responded to reports of the shooting at the bar around 1:30am.
The suspect, later identified as Williams, escaped from the scene. The victim was taken to a local hospital and later succumbed to the injury. The bartender also suffered a gunshot wound, but is expected to survive.

“At this is currently an open and aggressive investigation,” Deland police said in a statement. “The detectives are still gathering evidence and interviewing people about the facts and circumstances of the shooting. On the night of the incident, around 40 patrons were inside McCabe's bar.
Williams played one season for Maryland two years later for Miami. He is the best safer in his recruiting class and was recruited by Florida, Alabama, Georgia, Ohio and Pennsylvania, according to the Daytona Beach News Journal.

In 2021, Williams faced assault charges after alleged incidents with a pregnant woman. These charges were later dismissed.
