Indianapolis Colts head coach Shane Steichen was given a chance to respond to criticism from former punter Pat McAfee on Monday after the loss to the New York Giants.
McAfee slammed his former team for its obsession with the culture within the building. He said players were late to meetings and overall on-field production suffered as a result.

“As with any team, not everyone is going to arrive on time every time, but there is accountability and there are standards for the players and that is discussed internally,” Steichen said. Speaking via The Athletic. “And I don't think so. And I think that's the case with anything…Pat is a former alumnus who wants the Colts to be successful, and all of our fans want us to be successful. Just like there are, and it's frustrating when Standard doesn't make the playoffs.
“So it's frustrating for a lot of people, myself included. So we talked about raising the bar so we don't end up in a situation like this.”
Steichen was brought into the organization to help take the Colts to the next level after a successful stint as offensive coordinator with the Philadelphia Eagles.

In his first season, Indianapolis went 9-8, with rookie quarterback Anthony Richardson playing only a few games due to injury. The offense ranked 10th in points and 15th in yards allowed.
The Colts had to bench Richardson at one point this season. He was then returned to the starting role. However, the attack power did not change much. Indianapolis is 7-9 overall and ranks 16th in points and 15th in yards through 17 weeks of the NFL season.
