“We are thrilled to announce that the Washington Football Team will return to our country's capital! The new stadium contract is a huge victory for the incredible fanbase of Washington, D.C. and the team,” he wrote in a post on True Social.
“It also encourages economic development, creates more jobs and hopefully reduces crime in the community.
The commander posted a nostalgic video showing the old days of the franchise, formerly known as the Washington Redskins.
“The time is here,” said Cheeman. “Let's bring Washington back to DC.”

2026 NFL Draft No. 1 Pick Odds: Archmanning was supported early
The franchise performed at RFK Stadium from 1961 to 1996 before moving to Landover, Maryland, where it is now known as Northwest Stadium. Team owner Josh Harris has been looking at various sites for the new stadium since purchasing the team from Daniel Snyder.
Harris said in August that 2030 was a “rational goal” for the new stadium. He also expressed his hopes for a future NFL Draft at the National Mall between the Capitol and the Lincoln Memorial.
The project totals around $4 billion. The commander will donate $2.7 billion, and the city will invest around $1.1 billion over the next eight years on stadiums, housing, green spaces, sportsplexes and 170 acres of land near the Anacostia River.
The stadium will accommodate approximately 65,000 people and is expected to have a roof to accommodate events throughout the year.

“This land has been devastated and unused for a long time,” Bowser said. “What a deal with Washington commander offers is the fastest and fastest route to developing an RFK campus, providing housing, work, recreation and economic development as well as providing sports and entertainment.”
