Due to weather and the MLB trade deadline, veteran catcher Danny Jansen found himself in one of the strangest situations in league history at Fenway Park in Boston on Monday afternoon.
The Toronto Blue Jays and Boston Red Sox resumed play after a rain delay on June 26, with Jansen becoming the first player to appear in the same game for both teams.
In fact, when play resumed, Jansen took the field as the Red Sox pitcher, playing for both teams in the same inning.

Jansen originally began the season with the Blue Jays and batted seventh in the lineup when the team moved to Toronto to face their AL East rivals.
Jansen was at bat in the top of the second inning when the ball was called. Rain continued to fall steadily at Fenway Park, eventually forcing the game to be postponed.
Danny Jansen will make MLB history by playing for two different teams in the same game.
Play was scheduled to resume on Monday to accommodate upcoming matchups between the division rivals, but Jansen was traded by the Blue Jays to the Red Sox on July 27.
So it was Dalton Varshaw who pinch-hit for him when play resumed, and the two men called out to each other before the first pitch 65 days later.
Varsho came to bat against Red Sox pitcher Nick Pivetta with the count at 0-1 after Jansen hit a foul ball from Cutter Crawford and then a tarp was laid on the field. Varsho struck out two pitches later.

Meanwhile, Jansen entered a game for the Red Sox on June 26, replacing Emmanuel Valdez, who was playing second base, and he ended the inning with a lineout to first base, and things started to return to normal again.
According to the Associated Press, MLB had an appraiser on standby in Boston to mark Jansen's equipment, and the Hall of Fame has asked official scorer Bob Ellis to send in his scorecard.
“It's very special to be a part of the history of this great game,” Jansen said.

Red Sox manager Alex Cora also arranged for Jansen to play the remainder of the game rather than the evening game, hoping to make history. Despite Jansen's addition before the deadline, Boston's top catcher, Connor Wong, will start at catcher for Monday night's game.
