As Elon Musk prepares to retreat from his service in the Trump administration, the country owes him a debt of gratitude for breaking through decades of empty promises to expose and end waste, fraud and abuse in Washington.
Musk shared on Tuesday that time, focusing on the government's Department of Efficiency (DOGE), will “deep down significantly” as it tries to focus on the businesses and ventures it has left to serve Trump and the Americans.
As head of Doge, Musk actually did something about spending out of control. More importantly, he set up the system to continue this important task even if he left.

According to its website, Doge has saved the federal government $100 billion so far or about $1,000 per American citizen, but this is not a change. In fact, it's just the kind of change our country has long needed.
Some of these savings came from laughable software errors, or basic and obvious redundancy, but others such as the firing of probation employees in many departments, were difficult choices to cut down hardworking people.
If, as Musk believes, his big cuts in the size of federal bureaucrats do not cause disruption in government services, it represents a sea change in the way the federal workforce is viewed.
For the world's wealthiest man who once was a climate-saving liberal beloved, it was a bumpy ride. And while his decision to take on the task of leading the Doge, while perhaps not entirely selfless, rarely gaining power, it came at real personal and financial costs.

As far as Mask's revenues go, his services at Doge have undoubtedly hurt the Tesla electric car company, from the vehicles' symbols of progressive environmental virtues to some kind of Hitler Mobile.

You need to wonder if someone other than an eccentric outsider with screws aimed at so many powerful and money-filled profits for government dolls without being completely destroyed.
Musk is not something that has been destroyed. Now, the man on the mission to take him to Mars may return to bringing science fiction to life, along with his self-driving cars and vaguely scary robots.
It remains to be seen whether Elon will witness the first human footprints being carved on the red planet and in history, but few will have witnessed his ferocious race to cut down government waste.
Elon Musk thanked me for trying the obese federal belt at taxpayer buffets and doing what many said they could never do.

As the head of Doge, as he is an innovator in the universe in the automobile and owner of X, the fortress of free speech in a deeply censored social media situation, Musk is challenging us to make our country and our world a better place.
Meanwhile, whether they love him or hate him, no one can see what Elon Musk will do next.
