President-elect Donald Trump announced Saturday night that he has chosen longtime aide Kash Patel to be the next director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation. For those interested in the Department's proper fumigation, this poses a problem. True optimism.
Before getting into the long list of FBI abuses that Patel hopes to stop, let's first confirm that Patel is a well-qualified person who held a high-level job in the first Trump administration. Let's keep it. This person is not an influencer.
Trump nominates Kash Patel as FBI director, “defending the truth''
But Patel is a fresh set of eyes with a chance to identify and cure the abuses of the FBI, which too often becomes an enemy rather than a friend of liberty and liberty.
For example, Mr. Patel will take over an FBI that targets Catholics. The FBI determined that traditional Catholics may border on extremism and should be closely monitored.

As a Catholic, I would like to say that it would be a huge improvement if the FBI didn't spy on my church like they have been doing for the past few years. To be fair, though, the guy who wears black shoes and white socks at mass isn't fooling anyone. I wish it was just a joke.
As Sen. Josh Hawley-Sen said in his cross-examination of current FBI Director Christopher Wray last year: “Director, this is one of the most outrageous targets. You've mobilized your department, a powerful law enforcement department, “Catholics''…and you're now telling us that you haven't fired a single person. ”

Want to go back a little further? Remember the Durham Report? As the special counsel found, and I quote, “the FBI has failed to uphold its mission of strict fidelity to the law.”
That's kind of the whole mission, guys. Faithfulness to the law. The whole thing.
That's not all. Remember the attack on Mar-a-Lago? Melania Trump's underwear drawer was searched and the evidence found there is on public display, spread out on the floor like an excerpt from “Goodfellas?”
Have you seen such photos released by the FBI regarding President Joe Biden's classified documents? no.
Why did the FBI have to treat President Trump's raid like some kind of Call of Duty mission when President Joe Biden's lawyer was given a notice and a high-five by the FBI? I wonder if it was? no.

What Patel can bring to the FBI is fairness, integrity, and the actual blinders that Lady Justice should wear. Good people should not fear it, and it should not threaten truth or justice.
What Patel is threatening is the establishment and leadership of the FBI, a bunch of tweed-wearing, Ivy-educated men and women who have never been told no. He may say no when they try to crush his freedom.
And he should. Patel was not hired as FBI director to target our enemies, but to target our friends, and not just our friends, but all of us.
Are there FBI files? You don't know. Maybe so. Is there an FBI file? I don't know, but maybe there is. And this is the point. These people have extraordinary power over all of us.

Patel's record suggests that he uses this power sparingly and sparingly when it comes to Americans expressing their beliefs and living their politics. What he is punishing is the crime, not the ideology.
This is the best you could ask for from an FBI director. No more political investigations, no more settling scores. This is just fair and free enforcement of the law. There is good reason to believe that that is exactly what Patel intends.
And there's every reason to believe it can help our country on its path to healing.
