In a speech in North Carolina on Thursday with soldiers from the 82nd Airborne Division, the Secretary of Defense pledged to restore what is called the “warrior spirit” of the US military and announced a raise to the Air Tro unit.

During all American Week at Fort Bragg, Hegseth laid out the vision of President Donald Trump.

“We're going to get that back to basics,” Hegses said. “We restore the spirit of the warrior…and we are across our formation. This is the standard set here every day.”

According to the Department of Defense, Hegseth took advantage of the opportunity to announce an increase in risky mandatory incentive salary known as Jump Pay. For the Air Tro squad, it will rise from $150 a month to $200, and for the first time Jump Master will receive an additional $150 in addition to his existing salary.

“For the first time in 25 years… we're increasing our jump pay,” Heggs said. “We're not only increasing our jump pay, but… JumpMasters plans to add $150 a month in Incentive Pay.”

He added:

Heggs told the crowd that the army was the focus of all major Pentagon decisions.

“In the pentagonal corridor, you are in our minds, making decisions in budgets, planning, deployment, orders, and reorganization. We have you and your family in mind.”

In his remarks, Hegseth shared a core defense strategy promoted by Trump: prioritizing preparation, rejecting the politics of identity, and reaffirming America's deterrence.

“We'll focus on preparation, training, combat, accountability and standards. Black, white, men and women aren't important. We'll be color brands and merit-based fighters, as we're at 82nd.”

Returning to this foundation, Heggs argued that it was necessary to rebuild its power and thwart the growth of global threats.

“President Trump is committed to historic investments within our formation. Our promise to you is that when the 82nd Airborne unfolds, you will be more equipped than any other combat squadron in the world.”

In contrast to previous administrations, Hegus referenced global instability, including the war in Ukraine, the terrorist attacks on Israel on October 7th, and the US withdrawal from Afghanistan.

“Unfortunately, for years, the world has been wondering where American leadership and American strength lie,” he said. “By putting America first, we reestablish peace through our strength.”

Hegseth closed down by celebrating its 82nd heritage and future.

“Like the person who came before you, you keep showing the world what you've created, because we know you're ready for the important work that's ahead.”
