Rep. Jared Moskowitz, D-Florida, said in a statement that he was informed of the possible murder plot by the Margate Police Department.
The lawmaker, who was re-elected this week, said he was informed of the news by authorities the day before the election.
“The day before the election, I was notified by Margate Police Station, in my parliamentary district, of a possible plot against my life. The person in question was arrested not far from my home. . He was a former felon and was in possession of a rifle, a suppressor, and a bulletproof vest,” Moskowitz said in a statement.

“The manifesto found with him contained anti-Semitic rhetoric, among other things, and the 'target' list included only my name. I do not want to interfere with the ongoing investigation. “There are many other details that will not be disclosed,'' the lawmaker pointed out.
Rep. Matt Gaetz, R-Florida, responded to Moskowitz's comments about a possible conspiracy by tweeting, “This is outrageous.” “No one should ever hurt Jared!”
Fox News Digital contacted the Margate Police Department regarding a possible murder plot against Moskowitz and provided a press release from Major Alan Banat discussing the arrest of 41-year-old John Lapinski.

“On November 2, 2024, the Margate Police Department conducted an investigation that resulted in the arrest of Margate resident John Lapinski (DOB 07/23/83) was arrested,” the release states.
“During the investigation, our detectives discovered several firearms and evidence indicating that he may have been planning some criminal activity,” the press release continued. “The Margate Police Department has contacted the Broward Sheriff's Office (BSO), the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF), and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) to assist in the investigation.
“As this investigation is still active and ongoing, the Margate Police Department declines further comment. ATF is currently the lead agency in this investigation,” the press release concluded.

Moskowitz congratulated Susie Wiles following the news that President-elect Donald Trump has chosen her to be his chief of staff.
