Are there any Democrats who are not running for president? Certainly not.

At the time, potential candidates would even deny their thoughts.

I remember interviewing Marco Rubio in the Senate hallway about whether he might run in 2016. He even thought of it. I knew it was a bull. He knew it was a bull. And of course, he ran and lost to Donald Trump.

It's like when candidates or office holders say they never see the vote or offer bromide on how the only poll is on Election Day. Hog wash. They all talk to consultants who look at the polls and may be unstable or who see their survey.

Less than four months into Trump's second term, Dems are already focusing on the 2028 race

But now, new dynamics are established. This may be summarised as follows:

That means there's a mandatory nod to focus on next year's midterm. But there is no longer a shit dance of pretending to be a lack of interest.

The New York Times has some great work on this.

Kentucky Gov. Andy Besher has told reporters he will “consider” the White House run. Minnesota Governor Tim Waltz says whether he was “asked to serve”? – He does “anything and necessary” to do. Sorry, how does Waltz's big flop as Kamala's running buddy qualify him as a top spot?

Heating: Newsom, Pritzker and Buttigieg move early in the 2028 presidential election

Reuben Gallego of Arizona, who was in the senator for about 12 minutes, said he was waiting for the birth of his third child, but added that “the baby is getting older.”

Many of these White Houses have little recognition of their names. This means there's nothing to lose from running.

Pete Battigeg, once bitten by a bug, is clearly running again, but the former transport secretary plays Koi.

My favorite quote comes from Galego, who I told NBC. “I am an elected official. It goes beyond my heart.”

Democrats are moving early to line up the 2028 presidential bids

The Prophet counts at least 19 potential candidates. Many of them don't reach Iowa. Or, the votes are too low and you won't be able to reach the stage of discussion. Or you'll be kicked out of the race when the funding drys out.

The great mention was openly replaced by the media, and as a result, became social media and podcasters. But the good old legacy media – now considered a tragic insult – still has the opportunity to make the most original report.

It's expensive to cover the campaign. Media organizations are billed on Air Force 1 or private charter. Their bosses have to pay for food and accommodation for days. Some cost account dinners are legendary.

But it's fun, mainly a youth game. They don't sit in an air-conditioned studio. That's why I'm reading about this now three and a half years before the next presidential election.

Howard Kurtz is the host of Fox News Channel's MediaBuzz (11am to 12pm Sunday). The Washington, D.C.-based member joined the network in 2013, regularly appearing in special reports with Bret Baier and stories with Martha MacCallum among other programs.
