I recently learned that California Democrats are strongly pushing a bill that would provide up to $150,000 in funding to purchase their first homes to individuals who cross the southern border illegally.
Fox News reports: “Last month, the California State Assembly passed AB 1840, a bill known as the 'California Dream for All' loan program, which would provide first-time homebuyers with first-time homebuying loans of up to $150,000. If passed, the bill would provide first-time homebuyers with down payment assistance of up to 20% of the home's price, or up to $150,000.” Gov. Gavin Newsom vetoed AB 1840 last Friday.
When I read about this plan, my first thought was some of the people I work with at Project HOOD, a nonprofit I run on Chicago's South Side. They work hard every day, but they're not close to being able to buy a home. Illinois doesn't have a bill like California, but the state has given millions of dollars to these newcomers who don't even pay taxes in the U.S.
What message are we sending to those who pursue their own version of the American Dream by saving part of their paycheck to buy a home?

What I find particularly ironic here is that Democrats have made a ton of money at the expense of black people by claiming that America is racist, systemically racist. President Obama said racism is built into America's DNA. President Biden basically said America has to hire the first black female Supreme Court justice because we're too racist and we can't do it without her help. And it goes on and on.
So my question is: So where is the support for Black people?
Of course, I'm asking this question rhetorically. I don't think white supremacy is America's problem. What bothers me is how the Democratic Party continues to make fun of black people.
My 21 year old grandson died a horrible, senseless death. He is not a statistic.
A few years ago, then-Mayor of Chicago Lori Lightfoot ran on the promise of making Chicago safer. We all know that violence is disproportionately prevalent in majority-black neighborhoods like my own. What did she do after she was elected? She declared Chicago a sanctuary city for newly arrived immigrants, not those who suffer violence. Why should they be given sanctuary and not our longtime taxpayers?
I have no problem with individual immigrants. I have accepted them into my church because we are all children of God. What I have a problem with is politicians pitting us against each other.
Recently, politicians in California and Illinois dangled the promise of reparations for black people. Neither state owned slaves, and redlining, blockbusting, and so on did occur. I heard rumors that black people in San Francisco might receive hundreds of millions of dollars in reparations (cash, $1 housing, tax-free annual payments, etc.). I knew it was nothing less than a scam, but I just sat back and watched as many of the black people I knew talked about what they would do with the money that was coming their way.

And the politicians in California said, “Oh, never mind.” We're not going to give you cash handouts. We're just going to give you more services. What does that mean? More money for public servants. Like the casinos in Las Vegas, the government always wins in the end.
And to make matters worse, the same government then turned around and announced that it would give newly arrived immigrants $150,000. What does that mean? Black taxpayers will foot the bill.
This is no longer hospitality by the Democratic Party to Black Americans. This is blatant abuse. They are abusing a group of people who have been abused for so long that they no longer even realize they are being abused.
If you think I'm exaggerating, here's an example that any decent American would agree with: At the elementary school around the corner from my church, only 4 percent of the students enrolled are able to do math at grade level. Just 6 percent are able to read. Politicians and teachers unions know this, yet they continue to lie and say they're solving the problem by focusing on white supremacy.
And when we vote for anyone or any policy other than what the Democrats propose, they call us race traitors.

This is not going to end until black people wake up. At this point, this is not about politics, or about joining the Republican Party. It's about survival. It's about exercising the rights that Americans fought so hard for as Americans. Now they will be ashamed of us. It's about being Americans and respecting ourselves and our children.
That's the only way we'll move forward toward an America that's a leader and a game changer.
