Republican Florida Governor Ron DeSantis claimed victory Tuesday night over the defeat of two amendments that would have created a constitutional right to abortion and legalized recreational marijuana, respectively.
“Voting has closed in Florida, so the 3rd Amendment has failed. The 4th Amendment has failed,” DeSantis posted on X shortly after voting ended in Florida.
The two amendments are expected to fail after falling short of support from 60% of Florida voters after voting ends in the state at 7 p.m.
The Third Amendment legalizes recreational marijuana, which is being legalized in states across the country. On the issue of abortion, Mr. DeSantis signed the Heartbeat Protection Act last year, which bans most abortions after six weeks of pregnancy.
This year, Floridians voted for the Fourth Amendment Abortion Rights Initiative to repeal this ban.

The voting data on the amendment was released after Fox News Decision Desk predicted earlier Tuesday that former President Donald Trump would win Florida in the general election.
Conservative and pro-life social media users praised DeSantis' victory over the reported failure of the amendment, calling the expected failure of Amendment 4 a “huge victory for life.”
