This is the second time in this decade that the Los Angeles Dodgers have won the World Series championship.
The Dodgers fought back from a five-run deficit against the New York Yankees in Game 5 of the Fall Classic, winning 7-6 and winning the eighth title in franchise history.
Aaron Judge and Jazz Chisholm had consecutive hits in the first inning, and New York led 5-0 by the fourth inning. However, their biggest issue, their shoddy defense, will come back to haunt them.

In the fifth inning, Judge dropped a routine line drive. Then Chisholm couldn't respond to the short throw from third base. Later, Gerrit Cole didn't cover first base when he should have hit third base, instead scoring an RBI. The Dodgers saw an opportunity and stormed out, with Freddie Freeman and Teoscar Hernandez each hitting two runs to tie the game at five.
New York regained the lead in the sixth inning, but was given another chance in the eighth. L.A. loaded the bases before recording an out from Tommy Kahnle and activated closer Luke Weaver for Aaron Boone. However, Gavin Lux tied the game with a sac fly, and then Shohei Ohtani got on base due to interference from the catcher, loading the bases again. The next batter, Mookie Betts, hit a sac fly to give the Dodgers a 7-6 lead.

New York had runners on first and second base with one out in the second half, but Giancarlo Stanton popped out, Anthony Rizzo struck out, ending the threat, and closer Blake Treinen pitched 2.1 scoreless innings.
Walker Buehler came on for the save, retiring Anthony Volpe, Austin Wells and Alex Verdugo to defend the title. After the match, he joked that he wished he had been in better shape to keep his heart rate in check.
“What a moment for our team,” Treinen told FOX's Tom Verducci.
The Yankees were aiming to become the first team to advance to Game 6 with a 3-0 lead, but only three other teams had made it past five games. In fact, if the Yankees play clean defense, they could win this series 3-2. However, only the Dodgers will return to Los Angeles for the World Series parade.
Manager Dave Roberts said, “A lot of people ruled us out…but they believed in each other.” “Now they are world champions.”
This is Shohei Ohtani's first win in the postseason.
This is Betts' third time. Betts won two games with the Dodgers and one game with the Boston Red Sox. Freeman picked up the second one. Clayton Kershaw will also earn his second ring despite having an injury-shortened season.

The Dodgers won the World Series in the coronavirus-shortened 2020 season, their first title in a full season since 1988. Although Treinen took a subtle attack on those who don't believe in that title, he said the players on the 2020 team still feel some relief.
“There are a lot of people trying to discredit 2020, and I don't want to get too picky about this, but I'm glad those who are still here from then were finally able to silence the critics from then. It’s so great to see.”
They've been favorites since spring training, and now it all makes sense.
