My suggestion: Americaorps is evidence that President Bill Clinton declared in 1999, “We hold our hands and believe… we can change what we want to change.”
“Americorps has failed eight consecutive audits and is entrusted with more than $1 billion in taxpayer dollars each year,” declared White House spokeswoman Anna Kelly. The agency's inspector's office condemned it in 2014 for “a widespread non-violation of taxpayer fund shocking waste, LAX surveillance, fraudulent contractual commitments, rules, regulations and sound contractual practices.”
Things have been getting worse since then. Doge has frozen over $400 million grants into organizations with over 1,000 people and terminated more than 30,000 Americanorps members. Most Americanorps staff have either left or are taking paid leave.

Americaorps is the target of ripe Doge. That motto is because it seems like “Don't leave Boondoggle.” In Missouri, members of Americaorps released 70 blue balloons outside the county courthouse, bringing attention to the light-forms of abused children.

Hundreds of Playworks American Lupus members served as “boring umpires” for primary schools, bringing “safe and comprehensive play for all students.” Americorps members of Florida's “Women in Histrant” program organized a reading of poems about the evil of domestic violence.
Federal agencies are banned from funding political advocacy, but that doesn't stop Americaorps. Americorps has supported and abducted the Welfare Rights Organizations Union, Austin's Political Asylum Project, National Association of HUD Tenants and Planning Parents. Members of Americaorps give free condoms and provide escort services to women who go to abortion clinics.
I have documented Debacles for Americaorps for decades with the Wall Street Journal, USA Today, Playboy and American Septator. After Clinton boasted that American members taught millions of children how to read, I visited one of West Virginia's best literacy programs. Members of Americaorps emphasized their denying to teach children how to read. Instead, they simply said they were exposing their children to books.
In Mississippi, I attended the opening of the new assistant teacher training program. There, all they needed was to read by recruits at the 8th grade level. (The program application was rich in grammar and spelling errors.)
According to Americaorps, “National Service will return up to $17 for each federal dollar invested.” Americaorps. Formula events count the scholarships paid to recruits at Americaorps. The tortured assumption used to gin up a multiplier of $17/$1 cannot be squared without a clear idea of where federal funds actually go.
I saw this firsthand in 1999 when I visited the Premier Americaorps program, which received $600,000 to recruit people for food stamps. After that Mississippi program executive director avoided my question, I warned the inspector. It turns out that Americaorps money was spent on 14 ghost employees (including the local mayor) who did nothing for the program. The head of the local agency was convicted and sentenced to 41 months in prison.
Americaorps struggles to distinguish between actual “services” and imagined “services.” During the first Trump administration, inspectors warned of widespread fraud, including “teleservices.” Many grantees made no effort to verify the time provided. Americaorps management responded by recommending “immediate communication between members and the individuals to which the services are provided.”
This is the definition of altruistic Americanorps “close enough to government work.” The government's Accountability Office has accused Americaorps of failing to “demonstrate” the quality of services its members provide and ignoring them.

Americaorps apologies constantly portray Americaorps recruits as a martial artist in finance. Pennsylvania Democrat Chris Houlahan declares that “it's selfless to serve, but you're experienced and can dedicate it to private economic opportunities.” But she was part of the Teach for America program, where Americaorps recruits were paid up to $80,000 a year plus benefits.

While most Americanorps members are far fewer, the overall package of pay, fringe benefits and education awards outweighs wages collected by millions of Americans at the bottom of wage scales. Being a member of Americaorps is easier than making fries at McDonald's.
Olga Rodriguez lamented in the Huffington Post, and working in America is destroying her work ethic. Nicole Patterson, a member of Americaorps, won a Congressional bronze medal for community service and “we spent six weeks at Scrabble and Kickball for America.”

Democrats and liberals are trying to spark panic about the American end mise, but have these apologists failed arithmetic a long time ago? Americaorps had around 75,000 paid members before the Doge Purge. According to the Census Bureau, 75 million Americans formally volunteer to the organization each year. Americaorps is just one-half of the total number of volunteers in this country.

More than 20 states filed a lawsuit on April 29th, challenging the Trump administration's cuts to Americanorps. According to Fox News, “Americorps is expected to continue to exist, but essentially reboots from scratch.” However, there is no way to redeem a program that boasts balloon launches, poetry readings, and condom giveaways.
Congress and the Trump administration should admit that Americaorps will never become anything more than social work that has the Messianic delusions. Thousands of times more private volunteers ensure that Americaorps members are not overlooked. Taxpayers can no longer afford Americaorps' infinite virtue signaling.
