The Philadelphia Eagles are locked into the No. 2 seed, so Sunday afternoon's game against the New York Giants is literally meaningless from the team's perspective.
But from a personal perspective, Saquon Barkley has a chance to rewrite history.
Barkley rushed for 167 yards last weekend, leaving him 101 yards away from passing Eric Dickerson as the NFL's single-season rushing champion.

Barkley had another dominant performance, becoming the ninth player to rush for 2,000 yards in a season. What's even more impressive is that he did it in 16 games.
Of course, this record comes from a Week 17 game, so its validity may be debated.
But there's no doubt that in the minds of the Eagles and head coach Nick Sirianni, there's a decision to be made between personal goals and what will benefit the team.
Now, Sirianni said Tuesday he plans to discuss this decision with almost everyone in the building.

NFL teams are doing 'extensive homework' on Jon Gruden since controversial emails as offseason approaches: Report
“I'm going to talk to the staff, I'm going to talk to the players, I'm going to talk to (general manager) Howie (Roseman), I'm going to talk to Mr. Lurie. I'm going to talk to everyone and make sure we get a result. I want what's best for the football team. I'm confident that I'm making that decision,'' Sirianni said Tuesday on Philadelphia's 94WIP Radio during his weekly interview with Philadelphia's 94WIP Radio.
“What's best for the team, and also what's best for the individual aiming for the record?”
In 2021, Sirianni earned it by resting most of his starters, with the exception of DeVonta Smith, who was chasing a rookie receiving yards record.
“Every situation is a little different. I can't say which direction it's going to go, how it's going to play out, or even that I've made a decision yet.”
Even more ironically, breaking Barkley's record with a team that chose not to re-sign Barkley after six seasons with the G-Men (the team lost No. 1 while going 3-13) It's obviously a sweet feeling for him. 1 selections for this weekend.
Over the weekend, Cam Ward broke the FBS all-time record for touchdown passes, but did not play in the second half.

Barkley said Sunday he would be fine with whatever decision is made.
“I came here to do something special. Breaking records is special,” Barkley said. “But I want to put a banner up there. I think everyone does.”
Barkley has amassed 2,005 rushing yards this season, averaging 125.3 yards per game. He ran for at least 100 yards in 11 games this season.
