FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino said Wednesday evening that the department was investigating issues related to the origins of Covid-19, but he did not confirm the existence of a formal investigation into the cover-up.
Bongino made his remarks in a post about X amid growing media attention regarding the newly identified Covid-19 strain.
“When we read and handle the emergence of new Covid strain reports, we want you to know that multiple field offices are actively investigating the origins of the covid virus, along with the concealment of the covid virus and related matters that require our attention,” Bongino wrote. “Americans deserve the answer.”

He did not identify scrutiny of a particular individual or organization. The FBI has not issued an official news release on the issue and the scope of the review remains unknown.
The FBI did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital's request for comment.
Bongino's comments represent one of the most direct official statements by senior FBI officials regarding the agency's ongoing interest in the origins of the pandemic and the surrounding circumstances.
In 2023, then FBI director Christopher Ray said the agency was confidently evaluated that Covid-19 was most likely arising from a laboratory incident in Wuhan, China. Chinese authorities have consistently denied such claims, calling them politically motivated and unfounded.

The House elected subcommittee on the coronavirus pandemic continues its investigation into whether early public health messages downplayed lab leakage theory for diplomatic or political reasons.
Former White House health advisor Dr. Anthony Fauci repeatedly denied efforts to hide information, calling those allegations “completely false.”
Sources confirm that he is investigating Andrew Cuomo, who is allegedly lying about Covid's decision.
