Mike McCarthy resigns as Cowboys head coach | Herd
Mike McCarthy has decided to part ways with the Dallas Cowboys following reports of disagreement over the length of his contract. Colin Cowherd reacts to the news and says McCarthy should go to the Chicago Bears.
Mike McCarthy's time as head coach of the Dallas Cowboys has come to an end, according to multiple reports.
A statement obtained by ESPN from longtime Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones said the team and McCarthy mutually agreed to part ways.
“However, before we reached the stage of contract negotiations, it became mutually clear that it would be better for each of us to go our separate ways. I would like to thank Mike and express my gratitude to him, his wife Jessica, and I wish his family all the best. He was a great addition to the community here.”

Jones also expressed his gratitude to McCarthy, saying, “I have great respect for Mike and he has guided our team through some very unique and difficult times during his tenure.”
The search for the Cowboys' next head coach is expected to begin soon.
'Dez caught it': Looking back on the infamous Cowboys-Packers game 10 years later
Shortly after news of McCarthy's departure surfaced, former Cowboys star wide receiver Dez Bryant weighed in on the situation. “Great move for the Dallas Cowboys!” Bryant wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter, Monday afternoon.
Bryant spent most of his NFL career with the Cowboys.
Minutes later, Bryant appeared to attack McCarthy again while sharing his concerns about the possibility of Boise State star running back Ashton Giunty landing in Dallas next season. Multiple mock drafts have linked Giunty, who rushed for 2,601 yards last season and finished second in Heisman Trophy voting, to Dallas.

“If Dallas was thinking of drafting Ashton Giunty…Mike McCarthy wouldn't be the coach to coach him…”
The Cowboys' rushing attack was hardly overwhelming last season. In a move that was widely criticized, the team decided not to sign running back Derrick Henry. Henry rushed for 1,921 yards in his first season with the Baltimore Ravens.
McCarthy's contract expired after the 7-10 season. Dallas went 12-5 in each of the previous three years under him, but had not advanced past the divisional round of the NFC playoffs since the last Super Bowl at the end of the 1995 season.

Next season will be the Cowboys' 30th since winning the last of their five Super Bowl titles.

McCarthy spent 13 seasons with the Packers, compiling a 125-77-2 record from 2006 to 2018, before leaving full-season coaching to take the Dallas job. He led Green Bay to a Super Bowl championship 14 years ago at AT&T Stadium, home of the Cowboys, with a 10-8 record in the playoffs.
