The show announced last week that Shelby Danielle, a standout track and field athlete at Cal Poly, passed away last week. She was 23 years old.
Cal Poly Athletics said it was “deeply saddened” to learn of Daniel's death. She died just a few months after graduating from school with honors with a master's degree in agriculture.

“Mr. Shelby was an outstanding student-athlete on Cal Poly's track and field team for five years and graduated from Cal Poly with honors this spring with a master's degree in agriculture,” the school said in a statement.
“She was a six-time All-Big West honoree, two-time Big West champion, team captain and school record holder, but more importantly, she was a great teammate and leader. She cared deeply for those around her, had a great heart and was a role model for many. ”

Brian Brandenburg, the father of a fellow Cal Poly athlete, said in a Facebook post that Danielle died of a brain aneurysm. He said she was the inspiration for his daughter Ava to choose to run track and field in school.

“In honor of National Daughter's Day, we were able to shout it from the rooftops,” Brandenburg's post reads. “Tori and Eva have been a blessing in so many ways. They are both wonderful young women. Loving, kind, thoughtful, intelligent and beautiful. But my joy is shattered tonight. ”
“Shelby Danielle, the young woman who was the driving force behind Eva's decision to run Cal Poly's athletics track, passed away last night from a brain aneurysm. It is truly heartbreaking. Eva will miss classes today. This is my third day of practice. Hug the kids every time they come to class. Please pray for Shelby and her family. ”

Danielle was a Mustang sprinter. She is the school record holder in the women's indoor 200 meters with a score of 24.69 and is second all-time in the women's indoor 60 meters with a score of 7.62.
According to her bio on the school's website, she details why she enrolled at Cal Poly.

“I think it's the best school for me to grow academically and athletically, and it's a place where I feel comfortable because it's close to home,” Daniele said.
