Jim Everett was a solid quarterback during his time in the NFL, leading the league in touchdown passes in 1988 and 1989 and earning a Pro Bowl selection in 1990 with the Los Angeles Rams.
But most fans remember Everett for an incident he had with then-ESPN host Jim Rome shortly after he signed with the New Orleans Saints, when Rome mocked Everett by calling him “Chris,” a reference to the women's tennis star, after Everett suggested he wasn't the type to be attacked during a match.

During a 1994 interview between Rome and Everett, Rome continued to taunt Everett. The quarterback implied that a physical confrontation would occur if Rome continued to taunt. When the announcer taunted him again, Everett shoved Rome to the ground and overturned a table between the two. No one was injured in the incident, and no legal action was taken.
It remains a famous TV scene to this day.
Everett appeared on “The Ricky Cobb Show” on Thursday and told the Outkick host about the incident. Everett said Rome called it a “mistake” about 10 years ago.

Jets' Aaron Rodgers has high hopes for return to action: 'Expect great things'
“Well, there was no real exchange. Did he apologize? No he didn't. And then finally about 10 years ago he said, 'That was a mistake, this was a mistake,' so I understand,” Everett said. “I understand how he felt. Our team wasn't winning at the time, so he blamed the quarterback, he blamed me, he blamed me, he blamed me, he blamed me, he blamed me.
“I understood all of that. Anyway, I was really excited. There was a commercial we were going to do and we were going to be paid six figures and[Rome]turned it down. I was like, 'Are you kidding me?' So I'm open to it and I would contact Professor Cobb right now and say, 'Jim, let's do something together. This is so much fun there's no way it wouldn't be profitable.'”
“I'd be open to doing something with him and Chris Evert. I think it's great to let bygones be bygones.”
