This week's horrifying murders of two staff members at the Israeli Embassy outside the Washington, D.C. Capital Jewish Museum, remind us that words are important, both on campus and on Congress.
The young couple reportedly got engaged next week was killed at close range Wednesday by Elias Rodriguez, a 30-year-old suspect from Chicago. Rodriguez reportedly repeated the words that are often heard in many anti-Semitic protests on campus around our nation: “Free Palestine.”
He is also said to have said, “I did that for Gaza.”
The amount of anti-Semitic hatred since the October 7 attack on Israel has been surprising and unprecedented in our country and around the world. From Jewish protests on campus to demonstrations on Nastie Street, which are permitted in mostly Jewish areas, there is action in these words, and now we see where they can lead. Last week, at New York University, undergraduate Logan Rozos, he used his graduation speech to denounce the United States for supporting Gaza's “genocide” and denounce “Palestinian atrocities.” And just hours before the anti-Semitism attacks in Washington, D.C., a shameful exhibit took place during the launch of Columbia University. There, anti-Israeli protesters torched their diplomas outside the university in chants of “genocide” and “free Palestine.”

A direct line connects two incidents – we remind you, once again, on the millionth, that words have the power to kill.
On October 7th, Hamas terrorists, along with thousands of Gazan civilians, infiltrated Israeli towns and villages south of Israel, committing unspeakable atrocities such as rape, murder and looting, including 240 enticed people. Many of the perpetrators were young people who grew up all their lives in Hamas-controlled Gaza and absorbed anti-Semitic hatred towards Jews. The results were revealed in the horrifying and frightening glory of that bloody day. In one memorable audio call released by the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF), the young man excitedly tells his parents that he alone has killed 10 Jews.
“Look at how much I killed with my own hands! Your son killed a Jew!” he said. “Mom, your son is a hero,” he added. His parents praised him, and he continued to share that he had called from the phone of a Jewish woman he just murdered, and begged him to check his WhatsApp messages for photos.
“I wish I was with you,” says my mother.

The result of the most Jewish murders since the Holocaust on October 7 is the horrifying war Israel has waged against Hamas, the murderous terrorist group in Gaza, nearly 600 days.
The war revealed the scope of Hamas' education and indoctrination. In one example, IDF discovered a copy of Adolf Hitler's infamous book, “Main Kamp,” in the bedroom of a child, which will be used as a Hamasterolist base in Gaza. The book was found to feature commentary and highlights, and similar hateful content was used continuously throughout Gaza schools, including those run by UNRWA.

Similarly, young children were taught how to kill Jews and use weapons at summer camps. Teachers, registered Hamas members, were also an integral part of this oiled indoctrination machinery. It's no wonder this distorted reality exploded in our faces.
During the war we have seen similar anti-Semitic hatreds that are allowed to run amoks on our streets and on university campuses. The worst kind of accusations are exempt from Israel and the Jewish community. “Genocide,” they chant as if it were a play on words and not a malicious and dangerous accusation with fatal consequences.

Guns weren't the only ones who killed two young men in Washington, DC. It was also, and perhaps primarily a tsunami of hateful words that engulfed our society through an industry of lies by sleazy anti-Semitic people. And it was our silence, and it unfolded, and we had no action against this voice and the vicious minority.
Words are important. Let's make this an age of accountability. This is the time of action. It's time for a quiet majority to speak up, take action, and stand up to our democracy and society.
If we don't act, we are all complicitants.
