The Trump administration has declared that Mexico Bay has been renamed on Friday, but general mapping services from Google and Apple continue to show old names.
On Monday, Google stated that the U.S. government will update the map to display the American Bay as soon as the official map is updated.
“There have been many years of practice to apply a name change when updated by the official government's source,” said X's post.
President Trump signed the presidential order on January 20 to change the name of the Gulf in addition to changing the highest mountain name in North America. The peak has been known in Alaska's native name DENALI since 2015, but has been renamed the previous name, Mount McKinley.
The U.S. Department of Affairs has implemented a presidential decree on Friday, but the official government map has not yet been updated from GNIS or GNIS, part of the US geological survey.
Google stated that if GNIS changes, it will follow the popular map application “quickly”. This is an important source of geography for more than 2 billion users. The company said that in accordance with the changes in the new administration, the name of Denari in Alaska would be changed to Macinley Mountain.
Google users in the United States will see the name of the American Bay, but Mexico users will continue to see “Mexico Bay”.
Other users in the world looked at both names, stating that the company explained “many years of practice.” The names of Mexico Bay are first displayed to these users, and the names of the American bay surrounded by parentheses continue, and the two know the company's plan are not allowed to speak publicly. It was.
Google refused to comment on the order of the name. Apple's representatives did not respond to comments on whether the company would adopt the name of the American bay in the MAPS application.
Google Maps use different names on a daily basis to reference the same location according to the location of the user, especially if there is a geopolitical dispute according to the location of the user. The waters between Saudi Arabia and Iran have been issued for decades for decades. Google labels the bay with two names of international users: “Persian Bay (Arabia)”. In Arab countries near the water area, Google Maps call it Arabian Bay.
When the Obama administration changed the name of Alaska Mountain in August 2015, Google updated the map three days later to reflect the name change.
