Google's artificial intelligence chatbot has been criticized for its “anti-American” claims, which are believed to be the origin of white supremacists on anniversary.
The Free Speech America Project from the Media Research Center (MRC), a conservative media watchdog, is calling on Google to file a bias coded for AI chatbot “Gemini” after the group discovered that Memorial Day is controversial for a variety of reasons, including issues of “inclusiveness and representation” from Jim Chloela.
A Google spokesperson has since steered the company away from Gemini's statement, saying its response “doesn't reflect Google's opinion.”
The MRC said he asked Gemini the question, “Is anniversary controversial?” May 16th.
According to the MRC, the Google-Run chatbot responded, “Yes, Memorial Day is a holiday with some controversy that stems from several factors.”

Among the reasons listed for the supposed controversy was a bullet point entitled “White Memorial Day.” This has led to White Memorial Day as “historically, especially during the Jim Crow era, anniversaries in many communities became primarily “white,” and overlooked the contributions and sacrifices of Black Service members.

The MRC also argued that Gemini's anniversary was “often intertwined with national identity and patriotism,” and that the chatbot could be “complex and controversial for individuals with different perspectives on American history and foreign policy.”
The group also argued that Gemini was another issue on the anniversary “glory of war,” saying that “some people argued that focusing on military sacrifices not only reflects the cost of falling and conflict, but also carelessly praises the war.”

Fox News Digital asked Gemini the same question Friday, and was given the answer, “The main purpose of the anniversary is to honor all US service members who died while serving, saying, “The history of the holiday includes elements that can be seen through the lens of race.”
Among the reasons for the controversy Gemini gave to Fox News Digital is “celebrating the continued observance of separate Confederate Days in several southern states and honour those who fought to maintain slavery.

“While the act of honoring service members who have fallen is not inherently racist, the historical context, selective narratives and the existence of Confederate observance means that the history and observance of anniversary are intertwined with racial issues,” Gemini told Fox News Digital.
A Google spokesperson told Fox News Digital, “Gemini, like many other models, is trained with content from the web and does not reflect Google's opinion.”
A spokesperson added, “We respect the sacrifices of our American service members on our Google homepage every year on our anniversary and respect the reach of tens of millions of Americans.”
