Former New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo on Sunday delivered an impassioned speech against far-left politics, blasting progressive policies and defending law enforcement.
Speaking at Bedford Central Presbyterian Church in Brooklyn, New York, Governor Cuomo began by calling Vice President Kamala Harris “smart and capable” and saying he would support her in the next presidential election.
“She's going to unite the Democratic Party,” the former politician said. “She's going to bring new energy. And the other side of it is Donald Trump, and we've seen that, and we're not going to go back to that again.”
But the Democrat pointed out that having Harris in power “won't solve all of our problems” because the government “is not working for the people at a very fundamental level,” and launched into a six-minute tirade against progressive politics.

“The situation is getting worse, not better,” Cuomo continued. “I think it's time to take a fresh look at the situation. It's time to look at it with a new lens.”
“Today, there's a big political debate on the Democratic side about who is more progressive,” he added. “I don't think they even know what the word progressive means. You can't be progressive if you're not progressive.”
Cuomo, who served as governor of New York City from 2011 to 2021, said progressive policies have led the U.S. to “go backwards.”
“Some people think it's progressive to say, 'Defund the police,'” he said. “Yes, in theory, if everybody is educated and everybody has a job, nobody needs to commit crimes. I understand the theory, but it's not that simple.”

“'Defund the police' is the dumbest phrase in the history of politics,” Cuomo added.
Governor Cuomo also addressed the immigration issue in New York City, saying the government “cannot accept 100,000 immigrants into New York City alone.”
“In New York state, it's just New York City. They're paying over $10 billion in hotel bills, health care bills, everything up to New York City. There's no federal plan and no real assistance from the state,” the Democrat said.
Cuomo then urged the audience to “forget the labels” and remember to vote in November.

“Just remember the questions that matter: Who will help you and your family and who will get the job done?” he concluded.
