David French, a longtime anti-Trump contributor to the conservative New York Times, has a provocative take on why the president-elect won.
It's the economy and borders, idiot.
“If the withdrawal from Afghanistan had not turned into a bloody mess (which is when President Biden's approval ratings plummeted and never recovered), if inflation had not skyrocketed, immigration would have increased. I can't help but think that if they were to rush to the border, we would have a different conversation.
“I know the Harris campaign had an answer to all these criticisms. The American people wanted to end the war in Afghanistan, but Biden was haunted by President Trump's bad deal with the Taliban. “Inflation is a global phenomenon, and it's unfair to blame Biden entirely.'' By 2023, America had the lowest inflation rate of any G7 nation, but the Biden administration finally tightened border security. and approved tough new border legislation. ”
Why Trump sticks with Gates and Hegseth despite new accusations – and his “Morning Joe” meeting

He added: “They also rightly argued that the nostalgia for Mr. Trump was misplaced. They made a mistake in allowing the former president the pandemic and the chaos and murder spike of 2020. His term in office “2019 did not end with peace and prosperity,” he added. It ended near the beginning of 2021 with disease, violence, and cultural decline. Even pre-coronavirus memories are idealized. ”
So it was actually Joe Biden who lost the election by causing inflation to spiral (to be fair, he was trying to emerge from the pandemic) and by turning the border into a free movement zone. He was also a terrible salesman for a string of bipartisan victories.
When his mental decline became apparent during the debate and he stepped aside to make way for Kamala Harris, she had to run on that record, but what differentiated her from the president? He famously told The View that he couldn't think of anything.
So the powerless Democratic Party may be in worse shape than you think.
Podcast campaigns: A curtain for mainstream media?
Given the party's evolution from champion of the working class to representation of highly educated coastal elites in politics, academia, and journalism, the Democratic Party now has a coalition that can deliver the victories it once took for granted. is gone.
In a news article for the Times, Jennifer Medina writes:
“The working-class voters needed to elect Vice President Kamala Harris to the presidency were too angry at what they felt was bankrupt, unmoved by talk of joy.

“Democrats are in crisis after losing up and down the polls. Voters without college degrees make up the majority of the electorate. Without them, the White House could be out of reach. And even for a party that represents and takes pride in its diversity, its identity is being called into question by its declining support from voters of color. ”
Additionally, in interviews with hundreds of working-class minority voters, Medina said, “For many, hope had already hardened into cynicism. Promises on affordable housing have failed.” Simply put, their credibility with the Democratic Party was gone.''
Media liberals attack Kamala as experienced hard-liner becomes Trump's candidate
This brings us to Donald Trump's self-proclaimed mandate, even though CNN is happy to report that Trump received just under 50% of the vote (who cares? He's the 47th President).
Now, in news first reported by ABC, unidentified hackers have obtained the sworn testimony of Matt Gaetz's accuser in the House Ethics investigation and apparently intend to make it public.
The hackers accessed the files through a law firm involved in a civil case against Joel Greenberg, Gaetz's former friend who is currently serving an 11-year prison sentence for sex trafficking. The file includes sworn testimony from a woman who said she had sex with Gates when she was 17 in 2017, and another woman who said she witnessed the sex act.

Asked for comment, Trump transition spokesman Alex Pfeiffer said, “Matt Gaetz will be the next attorney general. I'm sure he will.”
“These are baseless allegations aimed at derailing the second Trump administration. The Biden Justice Department investigated Gaetz for years and cleared him of any wrongdoing. The only people who got into it were the people who were lying about Matt Gaetz.”
Mr. Trump is making calls on Mr. Gates' behalf, and J.D. Vance is escorting him and other candidates around the Hill.
The Times reported that President Trump is aware that Gaetz may not be confirmed. This is a simple matter of calculation, as most Republican senators are not committed to supporting him. However, the president-elect has no intention of forcing or forcing Gaetz to withdraw his nomination.
But if Gates falls short, it will be difficult for the Senate to reject a replacement nominee. Gates might have the same views on disrupting and perhaps politicizing the Justice Department, but without the former congressman's baggage.
The House Ethics Committee is meeting today about the report, although it is perplexed by Gaetz's sudden resignation.

One new revelation that could hurt him is that Gaetz used his adopted son's PayPal account to make payments to one of the women, who was not a minor. Doesn't that sound like someone hiding something embarrassing?
Democrats have some influence over the process, as they only need to appoint four of the 53 Republican senators to block Matt Gaetz. But they are also consumed by electoral shenanigans, and it will be difficult to defeat Trump on every count.
