Vice President Kamala Harris' campaign announced it had raised $47 million from nearly 600,000 donors in the 24 hours following Tuesday night's debate with former President Donald Trump in Philadelphia.
“These historic voter turnouts in the past 24 hours reflect the powerful and growing coalition of Americans united in support of Vice President Harris. They know what matters in the November election and are doing their part to defeat Donald Trump,” Jen O'Malley Dillon, Harris campaign director, said in a statement.
Tuesday's showdown was the first time Harris and Trump have met in person, and the showdown comes two and a half months after Biden's disastrous performance against Trump in a debate in Atlanta in late June.

Biden's erratic behavior and incoherent responses raised questions about whether the 81-year-old president was physically and mentally fit to last another four years in the White House, and prompted calls from within his own party for him to forgo reelection. Less than a month later, Biden called off his 2024 presidential bid and put his vice president at the top of the Democratic National Convention's list of candidates.

Harris' latest fundraising, first reported by The New York Times, is the latest sign of a surge in fundraising since the vice president became the party's standard-bearer.
At the time this report was released, the Trump campaign had not yet released its post-debate fundraising figures.

The Harris campaign recently announced that it raised $361 million in August, nearly three times the $130 million raised by the Trump campaign.
“Democrats have a ton of money. Democrats have always had a ton of money,” Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Whatley told Fox News Digital in the debate's spin room when asked about the fundraising deficit.

But he stressed that “we certainly have the resources we need to get our message across to every voter we speak to, and I'm confident we can see this campaign through to the end and win on November 5th.”

In a social media post on Thursday, Trump ruled out another debate with the vice president.
“I think we have an owe it to the voters to have another debate because this election and what's at stake couldn't be more important,” Harris said about an hour later at a rally in Charlotte, North Carolina.
