More Black Americans plan to make their voices heard on Election Day after Vice President Kamala Harris replaced President Biden as the Democratic nominee, according to a poll released on Monday.
A Washington Post-Ipsos poll found that 69% of black Americans say they will “definitely” vote on Election Day, up from 62% in April, while a similar poll conducted by The New York Times on Sunday found that 56% of black Americans said they would “almost certainly” vote, and an additional 33% said they were “very likely” to vote.
According to the Post poll, Harris' candidacy is having the greatest impact on young black voters, especially women: The share of black Americans under 30 who plan to vote has risen 15 points since April to 47%, while the number of black women under 40 who intend to vote has risen 18 points since April to 57%.
The Washington Post found that 82% of registered black voters said they would support Harris over Trump, while only 12% said they supported Trump. The Times poll found that 78% of black Americans said they supported Trump, and Trump again received 14% of the vote.
