Sen. Kamala Harris on Saturday called for an end to political “division” during a campaign stop at a spice store known for openly discriminating against Republicans.
Penzey's Spices, a spice store in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, welcomed Democratic candidates to browse the store and meet with supporters.
“It's time to end division, to bring our country together and forge a new path,” Harris told reporters.

“I was talking to some people here in Pittsburgh about a lot of the events that are going on right now, and I think people are tired of the division and the attempts to divide us as Americans,” Harris said, “and I think it's courageous for them to make this statement in public.”
“But for the people I'm speaking to, it really is a reminder that we love this country and that we have more in common than what divides us,” Harris argued in the spice shop.

The Penzey's Spice website has a page called “On Republicans” that contains an 842-word essay slamming the party.
In contrast, the “About Us” page on Penzeys' website contains just 461 words, including “We strive to make the world a better place.”
Harris takes new policy stance: Ban plastic straws
An “About the Republican Party” page on the company's site, written by CEO Bill Penzey, says Republicans can shop elsewhere: “We're happy to continue to have you as a customer, but we will no longer pretend that the cruelty, racism, COVID-19 lies, climate denial, and threats to democracy that the Republican Party condones are anything other than real risks.”
“If in order for you to remain our customer we need to pretend that we aren't causing the harm you are causing, then unfortunately you may be happier elsewhere,” Penzey's Spices' website reads.

Penzeys recently launched an advertising campaign for its “Justice” spice blend aimed at former President Donald Trump, saying, “Feels so good to be re-indicted!”
“Sorry, Kamala, 'Scary Spice' is already taken!” former President Trump's campaign said in response to her visit.
Penzey's Spices CEO Bill Penzey is no stranger to controversy: In 2022, he came under fire for renaming Martin Luther King Jr. Day as “Republicans are Racist Weekend!”
According to Penzey's Spice's Facebook page, this behavior caused the spice brand to lose 40,000 subscribers in January 2022, but it has not apologized.
