Marcus Ericsson's Andretti Global Car did not pass the post-race technical inspection.

Erickson, who finished behind Indianapolis 500 winner Alex Pallow on Sunday, was then pushed into the back of 33 fields. Erickson was stripped of the runner-up finish and moved to 31st place.

A car from fellow Andretti Global teammate Kyle Kirkwood also failed to inspect. As a result, Kirkwood was relegated to 32nd place. He first finished the race in sixth place.

“We have received post-race notifications provided by IndyCar,” Andretti Global said in a statement. “We take the time needed to evaluate the information and request a full review with IndyCar.”

Indycar said the changes made by Andretti Global are in the cover of the energy management system offered by Dallara, the company that provides the chassis for the series. The rulebook states that these parts should be used as they are being supplied.

Moving behind the field, Ericsson and Kirkwood's prize money was lost, and championship points were lost from the original finish. Instead, both drivers receive money and points related to the penalty finish.

Each car was also fined $100,000, and the team's competition manager was suspended in upcoming races on the streets of Detroit.

This year's Indy 500 wallet was a record $20,283,000, and it was a very expensive swing for Andretti, as winner Palou received $3.8 million. Erickson will receive $610,500 as he finished 31st when he could make up to $1 million.

Kirkwood is set to earn $607,500 after receiving 32 finish credits.

“We raced great, we came across the line sixth,” Kirkwood said. “We went through the (review) process and this team is built on sportsmanship. They are based on integrity and we try to do everything in the future.”

The disqualification changed the finishing order of the podium, with AJ Foy Race's David Marcus coming in second and Arrow McLaren's Pat O'Ward coming in third. For the Foyt team, combined with Santino Ferrucci's tailored fifth-place finish, it marked the team's best indie 500 finish of 25 years.

Callum Ilott's 90 cars also failed to meet the minimum end plate height and location specifications, resulting in failing to meet post-race technical inspections. Prema Racing was charged with the same penalties as Andretti Global. This means that he finished last with “the biggest sight of the race” rather than the 12th.
