Scott McLaughlin's Indianapolis 500 ended before the race turned green.
McLaughlin and the rest of the field were pace-laps to prepare for the green flag. McLaughlin was immediately warming the tires at the front when his car slipped, and he hit a wall.

No. 3 rested, and McLaughlin couldn't believe it.
A Fox Sports broadcast showed McLaughlin had his head in his hand and pulled it out of the car. His race team told broadcaster Jamie there was no way to drive when the race is at full speed.
The race was already nearly an hour behind as it rained like the event was about to progress.
That moment became one of the messy moments seen in the Indy 500 in recent memory.

“I really don't know what happened,” he told the Little Little of Infield Care Center. “I'm really upset with my team. They've made a great car again. I'm really sorry to my sponsors, my fans, my family. I don't know what happened.

“I can't believe we're off the race. Today was so hopeful. Yeah, perhaps the worst moment of my life.”
McLaughlin was scheduled to start in 10th in the fourth row outside Connor Daly. Alexander Rossi was on the other side of Daly.
He had a tough week before the Indy 500 as he was one of the drivers who had a terrible crash during practice.
McLaughlin finished sixth in the Indianapolis 500 last season. This was the best finish of his career. Sunday marks the worst finish of his career in racing.
