The New York Jets brought in a familiar face to help with their search for a general manager and head coach, a move that puzzled some as he was a former executive fired by the organization years ago. There is.
Former Jets GM Mike Tannenbaum and his “33rd team” will help identify and vet candidates for two high-level jobs and coordinate interviews and candidates, according to the New York Post. He was reportedly invited by Mr. Gang Green for the purpose.
The Jets have a head start compared to other teams who could be in the same position after New York released Joe Douglas a few weeks after head coach Robert Saleh was fired.

Jets owner Woody Johnson will reportedly oversee the investigation involving the No. 33 team, as will other Jets executives still in the front office.
The paper said Tannenbaum and former Vikings general manager Rick Spielman will be the “principal representatives” of the No. 33 team, with the latter having a say in selecting the Washington Commanders' general manager and coach last season. It is said that he was
The managers appear to be in great shape, taking over before the 2024 season, with Adams Peters as the general manager and Dan Quinn as the new head coach. Washington is currently aiming for the playoffs in the NFC.

While Team 33 will assist in the search, it will also provide research on recruitment best practices and data analysis from the past five years, the newspaper said.
Szpilman helped the organization last season, but Tannenbaum is someone who knows what Johnson wants personally. He served as the Jets' GM from 2006 to 2012, overseeing the team's roster the last time they reached the playoffs.
Tannenbaum was responsible for drafting the Jets leading up to the playoff season, including Darrelle Revis, Nick Mangold and Dobrika Ferguson.
However, Tannenbaum's 15-year tenure with the Jets ended when the Jets missed the playoffs for the second straight season in 2012. Others on social media couldn't understand why someone they fired more than a decade ago could help the Jets now in New York.

According to one X user, some thought Mr. Tannenbaum would “ultimately just hire himself.”
Another X user posted, “How stupid is New York Jets owner Woody Johnson?” “He is once again relying on Mike Tannenbaum to decide what's best for the franchise's future. He has a 57-55 record as Jets GM, below average at best.”
With Tannenbaum back to help the Jets, some are suggesting he return as GM and hire Rex Ryan to reunite the band. “There's unfinished business with that franchise,” Ryan said on Barstool Sports' “Pardon My Take.”
After leaving the Jets, Tannenbaum served as vice president of football operations for the Miami Dolphins before joining ESPN as an analyst.

The Jets have hired three general managers since Tannenbaum's departure: John Izdyk, Mike Maccagnan, and Douglas, but none of them were able to put together a roster to end the team's playoff drought.
