Meredith Gaudreau, wife of Columbus Blue Jackets star Johnny Gaudreau, has broken her silence with a moving tribute to her husband on social media after he and his brother Matthew were tragically killed when they were hit by a suspected drunk driver on the eve of his sister's wedding.
Meredith shared two posts on Instagram that included a series of photos depicting their relationship over the years.

“Thank you for the best years of my life. Despite losing you, I am still the luckiest girl in the world to have been your daughter,” she wrote.

“I love you so much. You were perfect. Some days I felt so incredible. I love everything about you. You are my forever. I can't wait to be with you again. I love you forever.”
Meredith shared a second post dedicated to Gaudreau being “the best dad in the world.”
The couple had two children, Noah, 2, and Johnny, 6 months.

“Best dad in the world. So caring and loving. The best parenting partner ever. John has never broken a promise,” she wrote. “Awesome at putting babies to sleep and Noah's favorite. I love how she's so much like John. We are going to make you proud. Love you so much.”
The Gaudreau family suffered an unimaginable loss Thursday night, the day before Katie Gaudreau's wedding, when 43-year-old Shawn Higgins struck his brother as he was riding his bike on a rural New Jersey road.
New Jersey State Police said Higgins, who was suspected of drunk driving, attempted to pass two other vehicles on the right and struck the Gaudreau brothers from behind.

Higgins was arrested and charged. Police said he failed field sobriety tests and admitted to officers on the scene that he had consumed five or six beers before the crash. He also admitted to drinking alcohol while driving, police added.
Following the death of Matthew Gaudreau, 29, it was reported that Gaudreau was pregnant with his wife Madeline's first child. According to the couple's online registry, baby Tripp is due to be born at the end of December.
