Thompson further explained his love of representing the United States throughout his career.
“It meant everything to me,” she said. “Every week, week after week, I always feel like I'm representing my country just by being an American. But when I step out there and wake up and put on my country's colors and play the first tee… It's totally different when you step on it and hear a voice that says, “On behalf of the United States,” and your name.
“When you hear the cheers and the chants, you always dream of that moment as an athlete, and you dream of how all your hard work is being spent in that moment. All the pressure, all the expectations, that's when you… It's a living thing. It's a certain pressure to make every shot, but there's nothing like it. That moment is what I lived for.”
Again, Thompson did not use the word retirement, so the 29-year-old still has the potential to represent her country in the future if the opportunity arises.
