Dan Campbell has had his share of memorable moments over three years as the head coach of the Detroit Lions.
This week, Campbell recalled a light-hearted moment when he took a few punches from a Lions player. Three-time Pro Bowl offensive lineman Frank Ragnow missed the Lions' recent game against the Seattle Seahawks due to injury.
The Lions entered the bye week after a 42-29 win over the Seahawks, giving Ragnow time to recover from a partially torn pectoral muscle.

Despite the team's decision to have him play in the game, Ragnow seemed anxious about playing in the game. Campbell said the offensive lineman's enthusiasm led him to throw some punches.

Campbell said he was beaten one day at Lions headquarters in Allen Park, Michigan.
“Somebody punches me against a wall, and then they punch me again, and then I realize it's Frank trying to show me how great his pecs are,” Campbell told Detroit sports radio show 97.1 The Ticket. “It was,” he said. “That's his way of saying to me, 'Look how strong I am. That's good.'”
Campbell seemed to be taking the blows just fine. He is credited with transforming the Lions' locker room during his time as head coach.
Campbell's time as an NFL player likely helped him develop strong relationships with many of the Lions' players.

After winning only three games in Campbell's first year in Detroit, the Lions went 9-8 in 2022. Last season was a memorable one for Detroit. The Lions won 12 regular season games and advanced to the NFC Championship Game for the first time since 1991.

Although the Lions' storybook season ended in January with a 34-31 loss to the San Francisco 49ers, Campbell helped breathe new life into the franchise.

The Lions entered this year's season with expectations of competing for a championship. The team's title hopes increased in January when offensive coordinator Ben Johnson decided to end his pursuit of a head coaching opportunity and return to Detroit. The 38-year-old assistant coach is the man behind one of the best offenses in the NFL in 2023.
