Detroit Lions safety Brian Branch was ejected from Sunday's rivalry showdown with the Green Bay Packers, but he decided to give the Lambeau Field crowd a double whammy as he left.

“That's not what I want to show and that's not what I want people to notice that I am,” Branch told reporters via ESPN. “That was just a moment for me. I apologize to everyone who saw it. Nothing like this will ever happen again.”

Branch was ejected after an incomplete pass from quarterback Jordan Love hit Packers receiver Bo Melton in the helmet.
After reviewing the hit ball at its video replay headquarters, the league alerted Lambeau officials that Branch's hit ball was deemed serious enough to merit an immediate ejection.

Branch was given an additional 15 yards as an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty for arguing with officials after being ejected and flipping the bird on a fan.
“I definitely agree with this call. My goals were obviously high, but it wasn't my intention to aim for the head,” Branch said. “We need to lower our goals going forward.”

Lions head coach Dan Campbell believed Branch's suspension was due to the game being nationally televised as “America's Game of the Week.”
“He's got to get used to it,” Campbell said. “New York is going to watch all of this when you play a prime-time game. They don't care about a 1 o'clock game. They play a prime-time game. So understanding the situation and please.”
Perry Fewell, the NFL's senior vice president of officiating, told Poole reporters that multiple angles of the ball were considered and there was some belief that Branch could have hit Melton from a different route. Ta.
“He clearly had an opportunity to avoid the head and neck area,” Fewell said.

The Lions still defeated the Packers 24-14 to improve to 7-1 and maintain first place in the NFC North. Green Bay would have clinched first place in the division with a home win against Detroit.
