Mickelson's X-post included a different take on Daniel Penny.

“Just a random thought, Mike Tirico and Cris Collinsworth are great in the booth. 'Day of the Jackal' is a great show,” he wrote.
“If a crazy person threatens to kill you, just hope Daniel Penny is by your side.”
A New York jury rejected the manslaughter charge against Penny on Friday afternoon. The jury is scheduled to deliberate on the lesser charges this week.
After the initial verdict was released last week, Mickelson reflected on Penny.
“Daniel, thank you for your service to our country and for protecting the many passengers whose lives were threatened by this violent and deranged individual,” he wrote to X.
Mickelson agreed that Penny was a “model citizen” who should be praised, not vilified.

The jury in the Penny case initially deadlocked, telling the judge they could not reach a unanimous decision.
The judge initially ruled that the jury could not deliberate on the second charge unless it found Penny not guilty of manslaughter for some reason other than that the strangulation was justified. But after jurors deadlocked for the second time, Manhattan Assistant District Attorney Dafna Yolan dismissed the most serious charge so that the jury could deliberate on a lesser charge of manslaughter, which carries a maximum sentence of four years. I asked. .
The charges require prosecutors to prove that Penny acted recklessly when he grabbed Jordan Neely in a chokehold. According to trial testimony, Neely broke onto a train while high on drugs and threatened to kill passengers during a psychotic episode.
Mr Neely, a 30-year-old man with schizophrenia, said someone would “die today” but he didn't care if he went to prison for the rest of his life. Penny grabbed him from behind in a chokehold to stop the explosion.

Neely later died. He had an active arrest warrant at the time. He was high on the synthetic marijuana drug K2, which acts as a stimulant, and his long criminal history included an alleged assault on a 67-year-old woman at another subway station in 2021.
