He was convicted on February 10, 2022 at the First Criminal Court in Jar, Rondônia, Brazil, and sentenced to 14 years in prison.
But ICE said Romao de Oliveira fled Brazil before completing his sentence. On April 16, 2022, Romao de Oliveira entered the United States near Santa Teresa, New Mexico without permission from an immigration official and was released from custody after being served with a notice to appear before an immigration judge at the Department of Justice. MassGOP Spokesman Logan Trupiano told FOX News Digital that state Senate Minority Leader Bruce Tarr and House Minority Leader Brad Jones cited the 2017 Massachusetts case where a state court barred cooperation with ICE detainees.
