The famous face had descended into New York City, and many people arrived a little earlier. It bouncing off during the dizzy Met Gala pre-party held over the weekend.
On Sunday night, about 200 people were crammed into a United Talent Agency party at Barne Bels, on the 50th floor of the Ritz-Carlton Hotel, with servers passing through a corn filled with passionfruit margaritas and caviar.
“I can't wait to see the costumes tomorrow,” said Tyler Mitchell, who filmed the catalogue of the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute. “Bad and good.”
Artist Rashid Johnson, who is present on the Gala host committee, said he looked into the vibrant history of 300 years of black fashion and black dandyism and believed it was the theme of the exhibition.
“I think there's really a clear difference this year, and that's because there's a lot of black people involved,” he said. “I'm excited to see how it tastes the story.”
Actress Monica Barbaro, who is attending the event for the first time, said she looks forward to spending time at the museum.
“It's said I'm actually allowed to walk around the exhibit tomorrow night when no one's around, like in 'nights at the museum',” she said. “I'm off this party and going home and falling asleep quickly, so everything's ready.”
